BOV issue

Hi,

I realised today that my OEM BOV was still in place but I also had a Apexi aftermarket unit badly fitted. The CRV unit had been removed and the apexi unit put in its place. I have removed the apexi unit and ordered a CRV unit to go back in its correct position.

My question relates to the vac pipes. The apexi unit was being actuated by a single hose from the UIM.
The OEM BOV had a pipe that looped from the UIM to the LIM which tee'd of to the BOV.

I have transferred the hose from the apexi unit to the OEM unit, which means there is a hose directly from the UIM to the OEM unit. From the many vac drawings around this seemed the correct thing to do.
I am left with the other hose which I need to figure out to operate the CRV when I get it.

Does anyone know if I can just connect the looped hose that I have left to the CRV? Or do I need to block off the UIM side so it is only connected to the LIM.

Hopefully the attached pic might help explain my ramblings.

Also my waste gate is completely disconnected, see pic, do I need to reconnect this and how. I have many blocked of pipes floating about which is a mystery. Where should the waste gate vac hoses come from.

Thanks in advance for any insight.

Get the vacuum diagram and go to work. Everything is hooked up REALLY weird on your car. Not sure if someone tried to do non-sequential or something.

That one actuator that has no vacuum lines going to it is the Charge Control. It's a butterfly valve in the Y-pipe that blocks off the secondary turbo until it's ready to come online. Without that hooked up, you are probably getting no secondary boost unless it's been gutted for non-sequential.

Is there any dead give away that some one has gone none sequential?

I still have heaps of vac lines, I assume this would of been thinned out it it was non seq.

Well, many non-sequential setups I've seen looked more like a monkey let loose with a hacksaw and a pair of pliers.

Do a little digging on non-sequential, you can see how people do it and see if any of that applies. But, most likely someone just hooked up crap wrong or half put it back together.

I see a whole lot of this on the Japanese cars that come across.

I think the worst I saw was one where the CRV and BOV pipes had been plugged together into either side of a tee union, and an old Blitz BOV was connected to the top of the tee.... Not cool.

A lot of people have bought me cars, saying they don't run right, or there's a loss of boost or power. You look under the hood and there's brightly colored vacuum lines snaked across the engine bay, tee fittings and hoses looped and hoses cut and bolts shoved in the ends of the cut hoses... Its a mess and yet they don't understand why it won't run right.

One guy here actually grabbed a big crow bar looking implement and began stabbing it under his UIM, to "break off those stupid little solenoids that don't do sh@#$t!" because he didn't want to understand how the system works, nor did he want to remove his UIM to fix his issue.

I applaude you and I encourage you to learn about your turbo control system and not hack and smash things in a blind tornado of potato-fisted ignorant fury

I would recommend replacing that plastic T adapter with a brass one. Plastic will crack easily from the heat in the engine bay.

Sooo,

Spent the day fiddling and faffing under be bonnet. I just couldn't leave it alone!!

I tried to trace the vacuum lines to the drawing that I had found in order to make sense of it. What did I find... sod all! Could not make head or tail of what is going on.

What I have discovered is that I defo have some kind of non sequential set up.

The waste gate control solenoid is disconnected along with the turbo control valve. The turbo control actuator (underneath) has been set in a certain position and a blob of weld put on to hold it in position. There are various hoses missing or plugged.

I didn't take the UIM of today as I wont be able to get back to it for a couple of weeks and didn't want it left in bits. I changed quiet a few hoses, surprising how many had holes in even though they looked in good condition.

Whatever's been done does not follow any other 'how to' guides that I could find. But I will say the car drives very well and pulls hard right up to the red line.

There seems to be a lot of pipe joining, in some cases I have 2 check valves in the same hose???

I will have to save this adventure for another day, I know what Im like I wont be able to leave it along until I have worked out what the hells going on!!

Thanks for you responses guys, as always its appreciated.!!
