Bouncing idle on car i checked out

I checked out a 93 vr touring. It was in really good condition for the miles it had and was a pretty good deal. The only real problem i found was a bouncing idle problem when you pushed in the clutch and gave it no gas. It would just bounce up and down from like 1000RPM to about 1500. The guy seemed to know a lot about the car but he didnt know what it was. He said it goes away when the car warms up for a while. The only mod he had on the car was a downpipe. The engine was new about 50k miles ago. Everything else on it seemed to work perfectly. What could this be?? Is it anything major or no? thanks for your help.

i wouldn't worry too much if the idle stabalizes after it warms up. The computer retards the timing a lot and throws in a lot of fuel on cold start up, and it could cause the car to have a searchy idle if it's "too" rich. But that is a pretty violent fluctuation from 1000-1500 nevertheless.

I'd get a compression check and make sure the o-ring seals are still good. 50K isn't exactly "new" on a motor.

Good Luck

Danny

My 94 touring with 58k has the same deal, until it's warmed up it usually drops down to about 1k then runs back up to 1.4k or so and then drops back down, but stablizes once it's warmed up. I wouldn't worry about it, it's probably something similar to the automatic warmup system or whatever.
