Bought an RX-8 shift ****...question?

I bought a carbon fiber RX-8 shift **** on ebay for about $10 because it's real carbon fiber, not that sticker fake crap. Anyways, I didn't do much research before hand (impulse purchase) and figured it would fit the 7 because I've seen guys put the illuminated RX-8 **** on the 7. I got it in the mail and it doesn't fit the threads. Does anyone know what the thread pattern is of the 7 and of the 8? How can I go about fixing this problem? I was thinking I could get a tap and dye set and re-thread either the shift rod in the 7 or the new ****? Comments are gladly appreciated. Thanks

Jack

I've got a 5 speed RX8 **** and it's a 1 for 1 fit. I haven't heard of a CF RX8 ****, sounds like a 1 off to me.

Jack is it like this one, your pics aren't coming up
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...spagename=WDVW.
how does it look? in the picture on this auction it doesn't look very good as far as the carbon fiber design. for 10 bucks I would rethread the **** not the shifter. good luck.

the one in that ebay link looks like ***, and also uses an alan key, so is universal, not screw on.

Check that link I just posted above. It is the shifter I have and I love it. For 100 bones you can't go wrong.

I have the RX8 6sp shift ****. The RX8 is a 6 speed. Do they even have a 5 speed? I don't think so. So how could you have a "real" RX8 5 speed shift ****?

If I remember correctly the factory original RX8 6 speed Shift **** was self threading... meaning that it had a soft plastic interior that you just threaded onto the existing shift lever.

John Magnuson----Yes they do since the shift ***** were made in Japan or Europe, either way we have a 5-speed version too. If your talking about the Ebay one, I can only say the guy put down in the discription thats its a JDM one, whatever thats suppose to mean.

The Ebay **** does look a little cheese....

Yep, I agree. It's possibly the best add-on for your car. The rotary desing is sweet!

None with the new boot. When I get the car back (hopefully this week), I'll take a picture.

take your stock one into the hardware store or wheverever you're getting the tap and die set, they'll find the right one. i had to do that with a thermostat housing.

Isn't it 10x1.5? My RAZO instructions are in Japanese, but I know my insert was a 10.

when you buy a tap and dye set usually it comes with a thread gauge to measure thread spacing. it usually looks like a miniature swiss army knife with a bunch of of miniature saws that swing out of it. sorry for lack of better explaination, but you should be able to use that to get a good measure of the stock shifter shaft threads. definitely tap out the ****, not the shaft.
