Boost questions

Ok, I have a wierd problem. My boost In first gear drops hard at the high RPMs like 6k-ish. Here are my questions, and yes, I have searched for some time and found nothing.

1) what is normal Boost in the first 3 gears? I know 3rd you should have 10-8-10 but should it be the same for 1st and 2nd?

2) now im only getting 6psi in first but at 6k rpms it drops down to almost nothing. 1 maybe 2 psi. Any ideas what can be causing this?

3) could a bad air filter or spark pulgs be causing this?

Only mod I have is a DP. stock with 70k miles. Thank you gurus. I have beer to offer for thanks

1) I'm not so sure that knowing the boost patterns in the other gears is relative to troubleshooting your problem. Maybe someone out there know it though.

2) For now, I would forget the over 6K problem and figure out why you're at only 6psi. More exactly your should be shooting for 10psi until 4500RPM when the second turbo transitions in.

3) I seriously doubt it.

Let us know if you need more of a hint ... also, what you've done to troubleshoot so far.

What's your boost pattern in 2nd gear? Maybe there's not enough load for 1st gear to reach 10psi.

Another Question

If I dont have a restrictor pill in the pre-spool line, would that make the turbo spool slower?

Have a look at:
Wade Lanham's Turbo System Help

This really helped me troubleshoot my problem.

I re-read your question and think that I misunderstood you.

Do you mind giving us you're pattern in third gear? This might help ... or is it that this is 10-8-10 and first isn't working correctly?

its not 10-8-10 like it should be. it will start out kind of low, say 4 psi, then just climb all the way to 10psi. And it does the same in 4th too but starts higher, like 6psi. My thought about the 3rd and 4th lag is the pre-spool system. I dont have a pill in the pre-spool line so im thinking theres too much flow. Im not sure, but it seems to me that the line needs some sort of restriction to work right. Its not getting any now, so im thinking its not working right.

I still have no clue why i cant get more than 6 or 7 psi out of 1st and 2nd. Any clues? I'll keep trying things and keep looking for answers.

These damn twin turbo setups are a bear to troubleshoot ... nothing against your avatar

I'm not as much of an expert as the rest of the guys here, however I think that you need to dig into things a bit more. It sounds like you've got all of the data possible from driving, but not from troubleshooting under the hood. I can almost guarantee if you do a bit of this they'll all start chiming in. So ... how to get there...

First, work on the boost level in third gear up to 3000 RPMs. Seriously ... you are correct about the lack of a pill (unless they are integrated into the Wastegate-control and Turbo-precontrol valves) but ... I would start by systematically working through the system.

If you've checked the obvious stuff, stop me ... but:

Is everything holding air after it leaves the primary turbo? Just about everything along the pressurized side of the intake is prone to leaking.

How about the blow off valve, is it holding shut?
