Boost problem - help before I push it off a cliff!!!

Okay, I'm at my wit's end. Here's the story:

Newly rebuilt streetport motor, went non-sequential at the same time (also did full silicon hose job). Now, I can't build boost correctly. It seems the higher my RPMs, the less boost I can build before I get what seems like a fuel cut. I can barely get the car past 4500 RPMs @ zero lbs.

My mechanic and I both thought it was due to the fact we removed the pre-control and wastegate solenoids, but after hooking those back up tonight I'm still having the same problem. And I'm about ready to give up!

My vacuum is fine, we can't find ANY vacuum leaks, boost does build, the car runs great, starts great, doesn't smoke....this is really the only problem (albeit a biggie).

Is it possibly a bad ECU? I have the stock one still; I did have to replace the Flasher CPU due to a power surge on the system...could the ECU cause this kind of issue?

I don't know what else to look for... I have to get the car inspected by the end of the month so it'd be nice to get this fixed, and now that I have over 1500 miles on the motor it'd be nice to be able to open it up!!!!!!!!!!

PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!

That's a great site! Wish they had a non-sequential section, but maybe my mechanic will see something that could apply.

Thanks....anyone else?

It might be helpful to post a list of everything you did to go non-sequential.

Also, once you do find your problem and start boosting again, you really, really need to get a PFC. Running a street-port and non-sequential with other mods on the stock ecu is really pushing the limit. Besides, that street-port is just begging for more air than 10 psi....

It's a shot in the dark, but check the small horseshoe shaped clip that holds the actuator arm onto the wastegate. You can see it pretty easily from underneath the car. My father's R1 had a mysterious boost problem and I found that the clip had disappeared, leading to a wiiiiide open wastegate.

I'm hoping to get a Pettit ECU soon, but in the meantime I really want to get this problem figured out.

I'm not losing boost pressure when it cuts, but my A/F does peg-out on the lean side; my boost will stay at the same level until I let off the gas but the car stops accellerating . There are no pops or whooshes or any weird noises other than the engine losing power.

I'm really blind when it comes to the turbo system...would the wastegate have anything to do with the fuel cutting out? Doesn't seem like it, and that doesn't explain why I can go over 4500 RPM, either.

Is it possible my fuel pump is bad?

On the plus side, I passed emissions today! I told them it's not running right and not to get on the throttle too much - they didn't even run it on the dyno I think I'm going to tell them that EVERY time....!
