boost & idle

I have a blitz boost gauge that reads both - and +, i dont know alot about boost or vac, So,new engine fitted, boost gauge reads negative boost and if i rag it it reads negative boost and sometimes positive boost on the meter,How do i read the gauge to know all is well with my boosting, And when i drive and stop at the lights or a junction the car drops revs, revs to tickover, drops revs, revs to tick over then settles down to tickover.Any help, cheers,Rix,Ps i have no air pump fitted and a hks ssqv dump valve that seems to vent ok.

I read your post a couple times and I still don't think I get what you are saying.

How do you read the gauge? The needle points to a number, thats how much air pressure is in your intake manifold at the time. Normally cars are at vacuum(sucking), thats represented by the negative number. Boost is when the turbos push more air in then the engine sucks on its own. It will then read a positive number. Stock the car spools up to 10 psi, drops down to ~8 psi during the transition and back up to 10 psi tapering down to 8 at red line. What unit does your gauge read in?
