boost gauge problem?

hello, should my boost gauge read 0 when it's not hooked up? reason i ask is because, my bosst gauge reads 3 psi when the car isn't on.... even when it's unhooked... which would explain why i thought i was running 13 psi... so i got a new gauge, and this one reads a little vaccuum when its off or unhooked.... so now at WOT i read 9 psi..... so what is the deal? a bad batch of gauges? they are autometer and came from a local speed shop..... i'm getting another one tomorrow... my buddies autometer gague reads 0 when off.... what do you guys think?

well, alot of gauges don't read zero when off, not abnormal. Autometer has gotten a reputation of not being accurate. If you get another one... make sure all the fittings and nice and snug, tight even. Make sure you don't have a boost leak and then measure. Also, you connected the boost gauge to the nipple on the intake manifold, right?

You should t the boost gauge into where the line goes into the MAP sensor, or so I've been told. It's more accurate. I still haven't gotten around to doing that myself :o

I'm giving Defi the same reputation! Stupid gauge reads 2.5 inHg when off!

yes i'm hooked to the nipple on the intake manifold... there is no boost leak there(at least i don't think so).. i used teflon tape to sure a good connection...i will look into hooking it up at the MAP sensor. i just don't get why one reads 13 psi and 9 on the other.
