boost creep and engine damage

i put an hks downpipe and racing beat single tip on my 94 touring. I have a defi vsd boost gauge and it started to creep shortly after i put the exhaust on. i did the exhaust myself, so its not perfect, and i think there might be a small leak. Anyway, the boost was creeping up to .9 bars!!! I thought i'd be fine with just two air mods, and i didnt even think about it. Do you think i could have damaged the engine if i drove it a few times and went w.o.t. a few times? Also, do you guys think an exhaust leak would help create boost creep? Any thoughts would help. thanks

There is a similar thread right now with the same situation. I don't think a small exhaust leak would cause you to creep. I think you have the same situation as the other guy. When you installed your downpipe, you may have knocked something loose or whatever. Your wastegate and pre-control hoses are right there.

What is your exact boost pattern by rpm? Be detailed.

And yes, you could have weakened your seals if you detonated. However, I'm curious as to why fuel-cut didn't kick in if you're boosting so high? It won't kick in on spikes but if you are getting steady boost over 12 psi above 4500 rpm, the fuel-cut should be kicking in.

Is that all of your mods? Do you by chance have a modded ECU? How long have you had your boost gauge installed? You didn't by chance install it at the same time as your exhaust, did you? The reason I ask this is because rynberg brought up a good point, you should be hitting fuel cut at 12#'s WOT, if not, you may have a chipped ECU. When asking for help with troubleshooting, list all your mods, it will help others to diagnose possible issues.

Frank
