Question Boost control after wastegate porting

I'm sorry if this is getting old, but after searching for an hour I need answers.

Alright, I recently ported my wastegate, and took the restrictor plate out of my exhaust that I was using in to keep down boost creep. When I ported the wastegate I was pretty conservative on how much I took off. I left about 1/16" to 1/8" inside the flapper. It helped, but with the home depot boost controller set to 10 psi it's creeping to 11 psi in 4th. I figure with a decent boost controller I could turn the boost to 11 and be done with it.
What is a cheap boost controller (either manual or electronic) that will keep boost steady where I want it? I know that the Profec B is good, but are any of the manual controllers good enough to keep the boost steady without much creeping or spiking? Thanks.

Sometimes boost creep can be related to ECU tuning. What is your current setup?

Right now I'm running a pettit ecu with a s-afc. I have a full exhaust and intake. I want steady boost at the lowest cost.

First off I would say 1 psi creep is very tolerable.

pick up the current issue of sport compact car. they compared every boost controller they could get their hands on. ran them on a dyno graphing pressure and time from full throttle both at 2000 and 4500rpm.
It's a real good real world test.

hey spyfish007 care to elaborate on that tuning vs creep question?

Port it s'more. Grind the hell out of that thing, it'll only help. I was cautious at first when i did mine, but still got 2lbs of creep (compared to 4), so i took it off again and got it to the point where the flapper just barely seals. No more creep.

Well I have no idea what that Pettit is doing so I can't tell you how to fix it. Basically what happens with boost creep can be related to timing. I know with some of the setups that are creeping with several psi of boost the timing is too far retarded so all that fuel gets burned in the exhaust manifold and that spins the turbos harder meaning more boost. To correct you have to increase the timing. When doing this though you have to be sure you are not just putting out the spark because you are too rich or your ignition can't handle it .... but usually your car is not running well if you are seeing this kind of problem. You can also use fuel to help out with boost creep, but this is more to settle it down and you will lose power. You really just have to look at the data your car is telling you. I agree 1 psi is not bad.
