Book: RX-7 by Jack Yamaguchi

RX-7: The Mazda RX-7: Mazda's Legendary Sports Car
Plus: Racing and Winning - Le Mans and IMSA GTO Championship, 1991

by Jack K. Yamaguchi (Author), John Dinkel (Author), Koichi Yazaki (Editor)
282 pages
Publisher: Ring Ltd.
ISBN 9784947659019

Has anybody read this book? I have Veloce Publishing's RX-7 book by Brian Long, which is superb and really hard to find.

I gather from the online reviews that it is a fairly lavish Engrish hardcover brochure with a lot of technical info.

I have all of the RX-7 related Yamaguchi books as well as the one for the Miata. VERY high quality, lots of great information. I recommend it!

The Yamaguchi book is a must-have. It really makes you appreciate the car and the engineering that went into it.

The Long book is also an excellent book, I think it's getting harder to find though.

Thanks, I'm ordering it now.

I also like Street Rotary by Mark Warner (ISBN 9781557885494) and RX-7 Performance Handbook by Mike Ancas (ISBN 9780760308028). Both are a little dated, but still relevant.

There are a couple of errors in Yamaguchi's book. Very small but I still picked them up. I have it, but its been a few years since I read it, and I dont exactly remember what the errors were. Might pull it out and re-read it again.

I hope it's in English. Shipping from Texas and the photo showed English on the cover.

So I received the book and I've read about half of it so far. It's pretty astounding when you look at the engineering analysis of the suspension, etc. and it's a pleasure to see the FD parts so clean and pretty in the gorgeous color plates. It does make me more interested in getting some Series 8 parts into my car... not sure how much work that would involve or how practical it would be, though.

I'm so glad that Mazda chose the body style that they did (designed by Wu-Huang Chin in Irvine, California) and I hope that they can make the same magic work in the next car.

Never Stop Challenging! is next on my list.

That's a great collection. I also have the factory service manual and Mazda RX-7 Performance Handbook by Mike Ancas, which is quite informative, in that it covers most of the basics, but it's slightly outdated.

My copy of Never Stop Challenging finally arrived. Nobody told me how huge it is. I'm looking forward to reading everything.

Here's the book info for those who are looking (information on the web was pretty unclear - pick one up soon because they are getting hard to find):

That’s probably copyright infringement.

Are there any books that go super deep about the rotary engine and its technical construction? Thermal efficiency, volumetric efficiency, BSFC numbers and so on?

See that link in post #17. I’m not sure how deep you want to go, but the author is a mechanical engineer. I don’t have a tech background but he kept it within reach of my small brain. So I found it pretty interesting. In part to your specific question…as I recall it is discussed how the rotary is mechanically efficient but equally inefficient thermally.

Good place to start. Not sure it's as in depth as you're looking, but it's pretty technical.

I checked it out and while it goes in to detail about how the rotary works, it offers no data or comparable numbers on the subject. So it is written for laymen that wants a deeper understanding, while not needing an engineering degree to make sense of it
That said i think it is a good book for everyone that wants a deeper understanding of the principles and uniqueness behind the engines.
