bonnet lifting at high speeds

Guy's its happened a few times before but gone away (or so i thought) when i removed the spring in the bonnet lock.

On the freeway at speeds around 140km (~100 miles) i look at the front guard and can see the bonnet wanting to lift up, and faster and it actually pops up to the safety latch, at which time i slam the brakes on and come to a stop to secure it again.

is anyone else having this trouble, or does anyone notice their bonnet shaking/flexing?

thanks

Common problem for me...At 120+mph up to 155mph+ i thought it was going to open up right over the windshield as my 57 Studeabaker Golded Hawk (supercharged) did,,, but, hasn't yet... Good luck Carter PS this is why most use hood pins on aftermarket hoods..I am modifying stocl alum hood to vent and release heat/air pressure to reduce/elimanate this problem..Happy New Year..carter

Hood pins...that's how a lot of people secure the hoods.

Where do most of you guys get your hood pins? I've got a pair of them that my dad never used on his car, but I want them to be the right kind.

Hood pins would be a band-aid at this point. Your hood should not be coming up like that. Mine has seen speeds in excess of 140 mph (indicated) on more than one occasion with no problems. I would suggest fixing your latch problem before jumping into drilling holes through your hood....

Although it is a "band-aid" it will suffice so long as you have the pins in. I agree however that you need to check to see why it is popping up because there should not be enough air to get under the lip and pull it up.

Check for correct operation of the hood latch first, it should not pop up at ANY speed. Also check that the rubber stoppers aren't causing the trouble. If they are up too high the hood my not be latching properly also the hood may be setting up slightly from the front bumper and catching air under it. The front edge should be even with the lip of the bumper.

thanks for all the replies.

i cant see myself putting hood pins in, however my hood is slightly lifted now due to it coming up at high speeds in the past.

i may try and bend that back, also see a wrecker and replace the current hood latch.

that may stop the flex for now.
