Bonez High-Flow Cat needs flange to mate to air pump hose

just got a used bonez high flow cat. looks like this:
http://rx7.com/store/rx7/RPFDMainConverter.html
notice the airpump hose coming off the cat. since is has no flange on it, anybody have solutions i can do (without having to order any parts from mazda or rx7.com) ?
i don't want to have to find a matching flange and have it welded on either.

thanks for any help

Where in the bay area are you? If you can find a flange, I'll weld it on for free.

I'm kind of confused as to what you're asking.

A new Bonez DP comes with a rubber hose and long metal tube to attach the air pump to that little pipe on the side of the DP. There's no flange needed.

i just have the main cut, none of the other parts that came with it. the tube for the air pump is there on the cat. how do you secure the hose from the actual air pump with the tube coming out of the cat.
if you look on the stock cat, there's a matching flange for the air pump hose.

Just like I said, there's no need for a flange. Just use a nice durable rubber hose and some hose clamps. All available at your local hardware store. That's all you need.

I have the ATR hi-flow cat, and it has the same set-up. At first, I put a hose to it with some clamps, but the heat destroyed the hose. So, I went to Home Depot, got some copper tubing (1/2", I think, that matched the size of the pipe on the cat and from the air pump) and some fittings (the ones with the ferrules inside that grip the tubing/ pipe). I carefully bent the tubing, and now it's all hooked up, and looks great.

If none of this makes sense, I could take a couple of photos tomorrow and email them. Send me a PM with your email address, and I'll forward them. Unless somebody can explain how I can post a picture- it never seems to work for me.

The only problem with your suggestion is that I've read that people who've tried had their rubber hoses melt or get destroyed after two or three weeks. However, I will try to find some high temp rubber hoses. What kind of hose clamps did you use to secure the connection?

I'm curious about how you did this. PM'ed you for pics. I'm guessing that copper will hold up better to the heat than normal rubber hose will.

10,000 miles, 2 years. Rubber hose is perfectly fine. I also have a good friend with well over 40,000 on his. No problems. Course, we are both using the rubber hose that came from Bonez. If you use good quality rubber hose, it won't be a problem. Standard worm-style hose clamps work fine.

Sounds good. Guess I'll try this tomorrow.

Are the bolts/studs from the stock cat removable?

ooo... good question, and I don't exactly remember (it's been a while). The stock cat uses studs, and more than likely, they'll be pretty corroded and hard to get out (I broke off one of the nuts when installing mine). But you can just use new bolts/nuts instead. When I bought my Bonez cat it came with a mounting kit that included new bolts, nuts, and gaskets. I don't remember what the size of the bolts/nuts are off the top of my head though.

ai !!
more money to spend and more time to wait before i can install this. i was hoping to feel a little more torque this weekend. gaskets look re-useable, well... at least one of them did. do you guys think some Grade 8 bolts will stand up to the heat?

Oh yeah, grade 8 will definately work (grade 5 should work just fine). You can definately try to remove and reuse the studs. I just didn't bother with mine (they were pretty much welded onto the cat). Although, now that I think about it, the Bonez cat has through-holes (no threading). So you may have to use bolts anyway. Not a big deal, nuts and bolts are cheap.

Good luck,
Rob

Anyone got the CARB EO# for this? I already checked on the site and I couldn't find it. They usually have a PDF document for all the parts that have EO#'s.

Did you get a used or brand new?
What everyone is saying is that, if you bought brand new from rx7.com, it already came with everything to mount it and you don't need to weld anything. I bought mine used which is why I don't have any of the bolts/gaskets/hardware to bolt it right up.

Where'd you go to get yours done and how much did you end up paying?
