Question Blueprinting and Upgrading Stock T...What is actually done?

What happens to the turbos when they are 'upgraded' and 'blueprinted'? I havent run across this in what Ive read. From what I understand its more worth while and cost efficient to just go single, true?

Turbo rebuilds (upgrade) usually involves the replacement of the turbine blade assembly with a more efficient unit to provide higher flow at lower operating temperature.
