Blown water seal; Now What??

Looks like my water seal is blown..........got the tester kit from NAPA and I've def got exhaust gas in my coolant..............Now what?

My local guy can rebuild it for around $3500 to $4K. I've heard many suggestions on the forum on sources for rebuilt engines.......some have said Pineapple Racing, etc..............

Looking for recommendations. Thanks.

Thanks Mahjik..............Pettit sounds pretty good; I thought I had heard some bad stuff about them so was kind of leary.........will check further............

damn... im glad i dont have to go through any shops to have a rebuild. parts cost 1100-1300, what is the other 2gs coming from?

all i can say is shop around for good prices.

The question is what do you want to rebuild the engine to do?
If it's just replacing, you can get a reman for 1900 with core charge and have R&R done for around 400-500.

A local shop here in Tulsa quoted me 3800...I thought the same thing...if I am going to spend that kind of money on my rebuild I'd rather thorw in an extra 500 and take it to a reputable rotary shop...Pettit, RP, Gotham, or wherever you are close to.

When you say you can get a reman for 1900........from who, Mazda?

As far as what I want the engine to do..........pretty much run strong, and be very reliable...........I'm not one of those............."I need 450 to the rear wheels" guys.......the most fun I have with the car (it's not my daily driver btw) is at the track, where good drivers in much lower HP/slower cars can kick your ***, based on driving skills...........I'm talking road racing by the way...........so with the bolt on mods (see list) I have I'm satisfied with the HP/torque I'm putting out now...........

My local guy, is very reputable and good, so I have faith in him................he mentioned that they would use 3mm apex 3 piece seals, Viton O-rings, etc, etc..................and possibly some mild porting as well for that price.............I don't have all the details yet.........I pretty much told him I don't want to sacrifice reliability for HP type performance.........with any more mods/serious porting I'd have to remap the ECU etc. do I don't know if I want to do that..........so I guess that's where my heads at.....I figure with my mods I'm probably at about 315HP or so so what the hey............but I'm always open to good suggestions............

As far as how I blew the seal, it's been a progressive type thing.............it's just getting worse..............the first symptom was frequent overflowing of my overflow reservoir...............now at the track I overheat/overflow after about 10 minutes of hard driving...........I basically can't heatsoak the engine without this occuring...........
Ironically the car still runs like a bat out of hell............until it overflows/overheats..............So if I drive around for 15-20 minutes, get the car up to temps of around 190 (water temp) then come home and let it sit idling for 5 minutes or so, then turn it off.........I'll hear gurgling with coolant heading to the overflow tank..........and typically it'll overflow............

Also, to answer a question, the car has 75K miles on it, including a good 40 hours of track time in the last year or so.............I guess those water seals all go around this mileage give or take 15-20K miles..............hey, might as well rebuild it now, before an apex seal goes and potentially causes even more trouble and $$$$.

I'll def call Pineapple Racing. Seems though that even if you bought their $2000 motor, between shipping their engine in, core back, and R and R I may hit the $3500 mark anyway. ?????????
