To really determine the price you'll have to see if it's a boost issue and not the turbo itself. Most of the time it's just a boost issue. Does he have a boost gauge? What is the boost pattern? What condition is the car in? Mileage? Original engine? Details, details details...

1993 MAZDA RX7 TURBO BLACK w/ TAN int. 6 CYLINDER 82,200mi. 5 SPD., BEAUTIFUL CAR! UPGRADED WHEELS!
the wheels are ugly, but its a six cyllinder! i'm not sure. i'm going to have a mechanic look it over up there. just assume blown turbo for the worst. i'm guessing rats nest problem but better to expect the worst. i just need to know costing on the turbo.

I think KDR usually charges around 400.00 for a hose job, so that's kinda in the area of what it would cost to get a hose job done at a shop. You don't really know unless you have excessive smoke coming out of the exhaust. You could assume maybe a bad turbo, hell at least tell them that it could be that and ask them to lower the price.

I just bought (in December) a '94 RX7 with PEP (sunroof/spoiler) for $9850 from a dealer. It needed a bunch of work done to it, though. So far, I've done the vac hose job, replaced the fuel pulsation dampener, injector o-rings, lower intake gasket, and tires. I've also put in a boost gauge and water temp gauge (got them in tonite!). About the only other work it needs is a new windshield and a new power antenna. It had 85K miles when I bought. Just to give you a ballpark figure. Everything else on the car was solid (interior is perfect, paint is good, engine and turbos are good (now)).

$13500 is a bit high for a bad turbo. Maybe 12000. You'll be looking at $800 for a rebuilt turbo plus $500+ labor. Most likely, you'll need another $600-1000 of repairs on fuel pulsation damper, lower intake leak, theromostat, leaky injectors etc, very typical FD failures.
