If I did buy this car, it would likely keep it fairly stock in the power department, minus a catback, and all the reliability mods. The price seems about right, but I am sketchy about buying a 93. I would rather have the 94 with the small improvements the car came with. But R2s are so damn rare. Hell, maybe I am being impatient.
Any thoughts or comments gentlemen?

I badly wanted an R2 as well, and bought the first decent one I found. I also paid too much, even for an R2. Also go check out some that are in much nicer shape than you're going to finally buy if possible. That way you can see what a truly mint car looks like and you'll recognize value in a cheaper car. When I first saw mine, it looked much more perfect than the cruddy ones I saw before. But in reality, it still wasn't that great, but I hadn't seen enough 7s to know that or know what to look for.
I figured one in the hand was worth two in the bush, etc, or maybe a few new parts and it'll be like new. That totally doesn't apply here.
Keep looking, and don't be afraid to travel to buy/see it. Odds are good somebody here may be able to help and check it out before you spend the time/money to visit. Don't let the seller play the old 'somebody wants to see it tonight, I'll call them off if you put down a deposit' game.
Trust me, another 6 months or risking not getting it isn't worth it. The good ones ARE out there.

You should not limit yourself to an R1/R2. They don't have any advantages that you cannot add on later. If you find a nice car, buy it.
Personally, I wouldn't buy an R1/R2. I like having the sunroof, and the other extras that are not included in the R package.

Re: the R1/R2 thing: It's a matter of choice. Performance-wise they are not really any better than stock or touring models. Most things are easy to swap from an R1 to add those features to your car - extra oil cooler and ultrasuede seats are probably the only ones that aren't easy to find for a good price.
Unfortunately, it's been 10 years, and the problems most of us fight are the same in all model years.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I am going to wait until buisness picks up in the fall and winter (my good seasons) and just buy something higher up on the ladder.
