Last night my mom made me go pick my sister up from her cheerleading competition in Lansing (45 minutes away). On the way back the car hit black ice and in spite of my success keeping the car parallel to the road, it slid laterally out of the left lane over two lanes into a ditch, out of the ditch, over an onramp, to the other side of the onramp. Somewhere in all of that I hit a post, the following pictures will show what it did.

 

Looks like you got off really lucky.

 

The same sort of thing happened to me two weeks ago. Black Ice = two 360's + jumping the curb and landed in a big ditch.

Man your lucky you didn't hit another car and/or roll it. No clue on the price to fix it. It doesn't look like it will be a whole lot.

 

That is not too bad. It could have been far worse. As for repair, it depends on more than just outside damage. You would have to get it checked out, and get some estimates. happy you're fine though.

I feel bad for you guys up north. You can hardly keep the car clean for more than a day during the winter season. I lived in N.Y. for 12 yrs, it was painful. And the damages the salt does to the underside is just nasty.
I hope you know a good P/B shop. It looks like it's going to cost around 4-500. It's hard to tell from the picture but if there is paint chips down to the bare metal, get it cleaned off and repair fast, otherwise the rusting will kill you.

 

A door and a kick plate will be about $1500 im estamating. I did the same to my POS truck and they wrote it off because it was that much damage.

btw.. dont drive the FD on snow or Rain.

You are nuts driving your FD in adverse weather, god knows I tried driving my TII once and it was terrible, I could only imagine how rough it would be with an FD. Glad to hear no one was hurt though.

 

definately be a good idea to spend a couple hundred on a beater for winters. The FD is not great in snow, and shouldn't be driven in it anyway. buy a beater. you may not be driving around in am awesome looking FD, but you'll at least keep it looking better by not exposing it to salt corrosion and ice/snow hazards.

 

I got almost exactly the same damage on my fd when I drifted into a light pole in the parking lot. It cost me 1500 bucks to fix it (but I knew the body shop). I would say it's about 1500-2000 to repair your damage.

 

yeah i finished the drive going like 30 in the right lane, and yeah my mom is paying for it, she has an LS 430 w/ traction control. she just didn't feel like going. I drove back and actually ate dinner at red robin before i went home. more than anything i'm pissed at myself for having sold my acura legend (winter beater) for insurance reasons.

 

I'm sorry man. Black ice is definitely the most evil trick of mother nature. You did alright though. It could have been a lot worse.
I did a 360 going downhill at 65mph on rte. 6 in Ct. on Christmas day because of black ice. I ended up going backwards towards the guardrail on the opposite side of the road. I said "there is no way i'm going to wreck this car after I just got it running right". So as I was heading towards the guard rail, I slammed it into first gear, and laid a slab in the opposite direction to try to slow me down so I wouldn't hit the rail. It worked, I ended up facing the right direction, stalled out, on the wrong side of the road. Thank god there was no traffic. I would have been all done.
My tranny made a high pitched bearing type noise for two weeks, but now the noise is gone. I'd rather kill a tranny than an FD.
You, like me, are lucky. You'll probably spend a little over a grand, but you'll still have your car. It may sound like a lot, but it's really not(when it comes to body work anyway). Good luck.

Hey what's up Neeraj, glad that you're ok. Black ice is a bitch, when I was in college one of my friends totalled his brand new IS300 after hitting a patch of it...

 

Yeah it was a bit slick that night from what I remember. But its true that it could of been alot worse. Could of hit another car or something. I've had my fair share of bad luck too, mine being a deer running right into the driver side door. A real drag for sure. $1000 damage for me.
