Black ice is just clear ice on the road that isn't visible. You only see the black asphalt underneath, hence the name "black ice."

Yayer, sorry to hear about your accident, but the bright side is that you didn't hit another car or kill anybody. I'd do what everyone else is saying and get a beater car for driving in adverse weather.

Snow Ice rain+cold weather all mean my car stays home and the 4Runner take over. However it is still easy to swap ends. In CA there is not too much black ice but we have fifty billion cars and crap on the roads. I hit a very slight oily spot once and spun the car into oncomming traffic Thank God the cars where slowing for a traffic light anyway. I didn't get smacked but I kicked myself in the *** later for being a moron.
Lets see some pics of the job they did!

Good for you. Isn't it cool when you get your car back after going through something like that? I rear ended a guy, and totally crinkled my front end, and when I got my car back, it looked amazing. I was so happy.
I'm happy for you.

yeah i've heard this so many times after my accident.. i know i know you guys are right I should have kept my FF Acura Legend.. I had to sell it though I couldn't afford the insurance for two cars. I'll be going to college next year so I won't be driving much in the winter.. but I've been considering switching my FD to seasonal insurance and picking up an old integra or something.. not just for winter but to save on gas and keep the long miles off the 7

You guys should come cruising with me in A2, there's some good twisty, scenic roads and usually a bunch of nice sports cars and bikes out on nice days to look at as well...

I've been out and about north territorial rd a few times....i know that some of the vehicle dynamics guys use a few roads out there to tune suspension and handling.

Huron River drive is ok.......but there are usually too many ppl on it.

Do you know of any other roads?

I'll be at an autoX this sunday @ the Ypsi GM plant if you guys want to stop by.

Really? What part of it? The part of Territorial I always drive on (between Dexter-Pinckney and US-23) is pretty straight.

Speaking of Dexter, I saw some C6 (I think) test mules the other day, they had a bunch of external padding on them. I don't suppose you know anything about that, huh?

Do you know of any other roads?
Yeah, Oak Valley and Liberty are pretty fun if you go when there isn't too much traffic..

Where is that exactly? Maybe I'll stop by and check it out, I live right by I-94, so I can get to Ypsi pretty easily.... are there usually many spectators?

There'll be a ton of spectators.....this one is SCCA run and there are over 200 ppl competing, so that should make for a decent crowd.

The Ypsi plant is right off Michigan Ave (US-12). Here's a map: GM Powertrain Plant

pm and let me know if you're planning to show and I'll look out for you. Have you ever autocrossed before? It's too late to get into this event but there will be plenty others later this year.

The road off N. Territorial is called Hankerd I think....very windy. Gotta be careful though, cuz last time i went through it there were a bunch of boy scouts hiking around...which put a damper on my spirited drive. I didn't need any manslaughter on my record.

As for the C6 test mules.....unfortunately I don't know much about those. Not my company

Thumbs up

bring her along! Usually these things get a lot of spectators who were just driving by.....unfortunately you'll get a few ricers stopping by too who think we care to look at their POS cars.

Store it.

Sorry to hear about the car. I agree with the others, it could have been worse.

I live in Chicago and I store the 7 from Oct - May. Just the few times I have driven her in the hard rain, I know I would not want to drive her in the winter.

Look for a winter beater...

here's the info

that page will tell you a little more about the event....I'll be there early around 8:30 or so to register and go through tech and walk the course.....

you guys can come a little after 10:15-ish. I'm guessing that's when the driving's going to start. I'm not sure when i'm driving....could be early in the morning or in the afternoon. Kinda depends on how they set up the schedule.

disclaimer: this is just my 2nd season autoXing, so don't expect fireworks, lol. I'll be in the black base FD with an interesting license plate.
