The black box was on the '96 and up cars. Unfortunately, I've never seen a vacuum diagram for the black box - remember, we only got up to the '95 model year in the US.
You'd have to get a Japanese shop manual to try and figure it out, which will be tricky. I don't know if there's an English shop manual for any of the later model years.

They were never dealer delivered here, only imported.

I've looked into running the black box on a US FD, and have come to the conclusion that it simply isn't worth it. First off, you need the whole assembly - black box, coil mounting brackets, other metal vacuum and fuel lines, etc. Then, there's no guarantee the '93-95 ECU can control it, as the '96 ECU is VERY different. The clincher was seeing the stock check valves built-in to the black box - if one fails, toss the black box and get a new one. No thanks.

First time seeing one of those.. I've heard about them..
So, it looks like all the solenoids are part of the rack.. Is that right?? if one goes back can you just replace one or do you have to get a whole rack?
More pics please!
Here's some more pics of the black box from my collection...
Yeah, I believe if you have one solenoid fail, you need a new black box. They might be designed better than the '93-95 solenoids - who knows. It is nice having all the plumbing integrated - MUCH less vacuum lines.

Dale, Thanks for the pics..
I thought they were better than US versions.. but now I think they are worse to have.
My first seq. problem was due to one way valves and noticed that if one of these solenoids in the black box goes, its time to get all new one.. Which is rediculous! Also, i guess you can't simplify the system???
Good to see what it looks like..
Thanks!

I'm not sure what all systems the black box controls. There's only like 7 solenoids in it, and we have quite a few more than that in our cars.
I do prefer having them separate where you can remove features you don't want. Block off the EGR valve? Ditch the solenoid as well. No emissions at all? Remove those.

DOnt be close minded, i just finished the black box assy and it works, it worked fine with me because i bought a 96 and up engine, all i did was rewire half of my harness to the japanese motor cut harness and i used my old ecu, i also wanted to clear up that the box can be easily taken apart and replace the bad solenoids and check valves, i just did it also, Just message me if you have questions.
