Biggest battery w/ bin cut?

Anyone know the largest battery size that can be fit under the pass. bin with the bin cut out? I cut mine approx. 2 1/4 inches below the top. I searched but really didn't see this directly addressed.

I figure the batt can be tipped up some on install to put a little larger one in. Just trying to avoid trial and error.

I don't care about weight, just reliability and I'm excited about getting that thing out of the engine bay!

I have the 51r in my bin, fits perfect and I've had zero problems with it. The engine cranks the exact same as it did before when the OE battery was in the bay. I know that doesn't answer your question but why go bigger if it's not needed, although this is America......

Even with only having to do it every few years, I don't think I want to have to remove the bins to change the battery.

Would like a little larger than the 51 if I can get it in there, 51 about cca 500, reserve 85 min., OE size 35 about cca 625, reserve 100 min.

But I if the experience with the 51 has generally been good I may just go with that. IIRC most of the complaints in the batt relocation threads were on smaller batts.

I had an optima red top in mine at one point. You had to angle it in sideways and twist as it went down, but it was able to fit without pulling the bins.

Optima Red Top fits fine. Check out the battery relocation thread in the fAQ for pics of the battery hold down box that I used for mine and pics of the Optima mounted.

Edit, the link I posted in the FAQ for the "optima battery hold down tray" no longer works. Just google or check ebay using that term.

I see "optima red top" all through the relocation threads but I have no experience with them.

If it is a "red top" is that a 51 size? Does that optima have the typical 51 ratings ie 500 cca, 85 minute reserve or are the Optimas better?

I think if I cut the back of the bin short enough to be able to remove and replace the lid on an install a 56 size would be able to fit. To remove the lid you would have to reach up under and remove a few screws to take off the hinges/lid.

I'm going to see if I can get a group 56 to fit. Looked up a 56 and it had a cca 590 and 95 minutes reserve. Pretty close to stock #s.

Trimmed the back side of the bin a little more, then smoothed it out with a grinder and a file.

Looks like it would fit with no problem, but was trying to see the biggest common battery that would fit without having to pay up for a high-end brand. Would like to save $ and have convenience when it comes time to procure a replacement. don't want to have to mail order a battery.
