Big HP clutch decision?
Big HP clutch decision?
Hey guys just like to hear your opinion.
Atm I narrow down to 2 clutches. Either excedy carbon twin plate or ORC (orgura) Tripple plate metal clutch. I can get the orc for only a couple hundred more.
I heard good things about the excedy twin plate on how good the drivability is. but also with the ORC triple plate I know it will never slip with a 13b
Most will say this might be overkill but I only like to do things once

Overkill doesn't mean that it will last any longer or drive any better. Are you willing to give up driveability and clutch life (and additional coin) to maybe gain durability and torque capacity? The real question is if you need to for your application. Race clutches don't necessarily belong in street cars and street clutches don't necessarily belong in race cars.
I would go with the act extreme racing clutch, I should be looking at 600-700hp with my setup, and It should do the job just fine and wont cost you a ton. you could buy like 3 of them instead of the exedy.

If you are not expecting to make this much HP, then the Act extreme racing clutch would probably hold the HP and torque (up to 577 lbs.), but is supposed to be quite harsh to drive. Straight from ACT's website: "ACT XTreme Solid-Centered Race Clutch Disc is specially built for quick gear shifting and very harsh clutch engagement condition during drag and road racing. As a result, these ACT XTreme Performance Race Clutch Discs are not recommended for daily street use."
If you are making about twice the HP and torque of a stock FD, then maybe consider the Exedy single disc clutch. It's rated to hold 2X stock.
Here is a pretty good website that has multiple options for the FD:

Thanks for reply guys... Most are pointing me toward the twin carbon D core. feed back is that it is not much hard than stock clutch to use. And its supose to last quite a lot longer than the metal types. I dont want clutches that chatters the drive train too much and the on off types.
