Best single gauge pod?

Am getting a single gauge and was going to A-pillar it. Just saw the Autometer single pod from the RX-7 store for $30.00.

I hear their gauges aren't so great but how bad can someone screw up a piece of plastic.

Anyone have this and is it OK for fitment etc. or do you have another suggestion.

TIA.

David

Sorry Scrub...........I think those steering column mounts sorta crap up the looks of the dash, i.e. they seem to be in front of others, etc.

Was thinking of just popping out the temp gauge and throwing in this one but wanted to maintain the stock look within the confines of the dash.

Any other sources out there for A-pillar mounts?

Where to buy Pillar Gauge Mounts?

Saw one for $30 from the RX7 store, made by Autometer. Are there any other sources that are better in terms of quality, value, etc.?

Thanks,

David

Rx7 store prices are hard to beat! =) Autometer is the standard unless you go custom. You could try summit racing. They are pretty low on prices.

are you going to replace the temp gauge with an actually working temp gauge or a boost gauge? if it is a boost gauge put it on the a pillar. or you could get a double a pillar pod and get a temp and boost gauge, that looks really cool.

No problem Mr. Mod............wasn't getting any feedback on where to buy one so I tried another thread with a more specific title...........trying to get a quick answer because my gauge ought to be here today and my mechanic has some free time this week; therefore I wanted to order one today..........

Sorry about the duplication..............

FYI,
The column mounts (at least the RE Amemiya one i have) don't block any guages, and look a heck of alot more factory than any A-pillar pod i've seen.

Also, the stock guages aren't really seperate guages the way aftermarket ones are: they are all on one circuit board (sorta) and i'd think you have a tough time just replacing one.

PTRHAHN:

Hmmmmmmmmmmmm.......................I'll have to look up some pics again...............it just seems like the ones I've seen blocked part of the view of the tach and speedo.........maybe the photos I've seen were a bad angle or whatever...............

I'll probably do the A-pillar just cause this will be a SPA dual LCD digital..........if it was on top of the steering it def would look a little out of place..............

Thanks for the feedback though.............

all the pics and everything i've heard about the steering column mounts never showed/said anything about blocking the driver's view of the tach/speedo or any of the other stock guages.

single guage: http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?part=14016

dual guage: http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?part=26360

The Autometer pods are fine. Just get whatever gauge u want and shove it in.

I had the RE pod at one time and it dosn'et block anything. From the drivers point of view the guage will just sit in the blank area of the Tach.

i've heard that the RE steering column pod does have some fitment issues though... the holes on the RE pod for the turn signal stalk and wiper stalk don't line up with the actual stalks since it was made for RHD cars, you just have to make the holes bigger (dremel or cut them to fit). but other than that the pod fits great i guess. pettit's steering column doesn't come with tabs to hold the pod down, and the RE does.

of course this is all stuff i've read so who knows.

damn i said pod alot

You are correct the Pettit column mount doesn't have the tabs which seems like an oversight-- you have to glue it. Mine has held together fine and while you don't have to cut it the stalk openings don't line up.

personally i like that look, and it really dosen't block any of the other gauges. I ordered mine about a week ago from the Rx7 store, or whatever you call it. Jason. But anyway it's on freakin backorder.

Is it me or does the column shroud portion (not the pod part) stick up higher than the stock unit? Not sure but I've noticed this in other pics too. It looks like it blocks the temp gauge a little. I think this pod would look better if it didn't point up at a different angle than the tach, but I guess I'm just partial.

he's got an aftermarket steering wheel, so it looks like it sticks out. that is a bad angle too. I have a pettit. almost everyone that rides in my car thinks it is stock.

Yeah I realized the after market wheel. The picture I was mentally recalling was with a stock wheel, but the angle of the pic didn't show if he had the column pod snapped all the way down or not but you could see alot of the shroud portion above the stock wheel. Thats why I asked. So, is your Pettit shroud portion the same as stock?
