Best Place for a Rebuild

my engine blew an apex seal on sunday, and it needs a rebuild. i've been advised against one place by a guy who got 3 engines from them and they looked like they were used as boat anchors that had been just recently pulled out of the ocean. One of them had a cracked housing from the get-go and they gave him a hassle about it, amoung taking months to send a new one. Where is the best place to get a rebuild, along with large steet porting and polishing? I'm looking to find a place that will do all three without the headache and at a descent price with the best workmanship. I can't be wasting my time and money on a place that cuts corners.

What place did he advise you to stay away from?

If you don't mined the drive Banzai Racing, Chris does great work and never cuts corners. Customer service second to none, Elaine you up to date with photos of your build. They built an engine for a guy in Russia not long ago. http://www.banzai-racing.com/
Good luck

The best place is usually going to be a local place that can properly build and support your car.

There are a few good places in the NY, NJ, CT area. A full list is in the Regional forum for the Northeast. GoodfellaFD3s in Clifton, NJ from the forum is a good candidate and I've also had a good build and service from J&R in Elmont, NY. They're both reasonable close to you.

Good luck.

hahah I love these. Sure it was. I have never sent one person 3 engines. On top of that all our engines are painted and look like new when leaving here, so it didnt look trashed or a boat anchor. Please get your facts straight before coming on here and spewing 2nd and 3rd hand info. I would bet whomever it was went out and blew the engine up and blames us for their stupidity.

There are many on this forum running our engines with no problems. Many of them beat the hell out of them and are making a lot of HP. Go look at our dyno section of our site. That is a fraction of the cars we have built and tuned but all of them were built and tuned by us and still running strong.

To claim that we cant build an engine is BS.

ive herd mazdatrix is really good. The break in the engine on a dyno and check compression after. If its not perfect, they fix it. They are expensive though.

RotaryResurrection.com. You can get new housings rebuild with a streetport for a very reasonable price. Less than any where else that is for sure. Kevin also uses mazda oem seals and replaces the apex seal springs with new ones also. He has built over 30 engines for me with no problems.

I think that was me or the other matt in CT.. Befor i moved[/QUOTE]

I know who RotaryBred is talking about then if its was the other Matt. We sent Matts motor to a shop that installed the motor and claimed it was blowing an excessive amount of oil. He swore up and down that it was our fault and nothing on his end so I had the engine picked up. After getting it and opening it, there wasent a damn thing wrong with it. We put it back together and sent it back. I got a call after he reinstalled it and said it was running good, no problems. Go figure.

Matt,
Im not going to rehash this dead horse. Your mechanic drops something in your engine doesnt mean we built a bad engine. After that we only charged you for parts which was a plate and a rotor when we could have easily billed you for a new engine. No clue what happened to your 2nd engine. Last I talked to you it was running good. So Im guessing you blew it up.

If you are capable of removing and installing the engine then just about anyone can build your engine. If you are looking for a shop to do all the work for you then you would be better off finding some place local. We have however had cars shipped to us from as far away as Cali.
Email sales@banzai-racing.com and Elaine can help you with arranging shipping, either for the engine or the car. She can also provide you with quotes for the rebuild and any other work that you would like done.

Just to clear this up. Matt PM'd me and his 2nd motor blew an apex seal.

The point is you get a couple of guys that dont know anything about a rotary going off what some hack job mechanic tells them. Of course when something goes wrong they want to blame us. If this was truely our fault nobody would have heard a word about this because I would have covered these for free at no charge to the customer. Its been a couple of years since we had a problem with one of our engines and that was a spun bearing, which who knows if it was a build problem, but we covered it.

Over the past few years I have had engines in here from just about every rotary shop. The build quality between most of them was the same, but the big difference was the time put into the port jobs. Most people would be shocked if I spilled the beans on some of the supposed well known rotary shops and how bad they rip customers off. Customer had paid for a large street port and got a port that a 2 year old took a toothbrush to and no porting on the exhaust side. You would think they would put a little more effort into the port when they know the engine will be opened at some point by another shop.

That would be the reason why every single customer of ours gets their own personal webpages, depicting breakdown, porting, rebuild etc.

Example: http://www.banzai-racing.com/larryD_rebuild.htm

Yea we offer picks also if the customer wants them, but a shop could easily show picks from a different motor, not saying that is what your doing.
