Jason at RX-7 store is good. His prices are great.

The HKS downpipe is a great deal, and the fit is perfect.

You can use the stock studs, and for the price you can't beat it.

Well Johnny, have you flow bench tested the HKS and compared it to other models? I doubt it. Do you have back to back dyno runs on the same car proving the HKS makes less hp than other models?

For a mildly modded car, it is a good piece. It is very affordable, and it fits perfect WITH the stock studs. What is not to like. It is a bit more restrictive than other down pipes, and I think a bit smaller piping, but for someone with mild modes, the down pipe will not be a restriction. The ECU, intake or mid pipe will be a bigger restriction.

Later,
Patrick

I wouldn't touch the HKS since its mild steel. Jason also sells the Pettit SS dp and thats definately an improvement over the HKS although I've heard some people have had fitment issues. I went with the M2 dp and its worked out great without any fitment problems.

I got mine from www.rx7fashion.com I am VERY happy with it, clean welds, super smooth bends, it fits great, noticable HP increase with my finely calibrated "Butt Dyno", and it sounds great. nuff said.

No have you??..but you just admited the fact that it has a smaller diameter piping and that it is more restrictive...so to a certain extent you proved my point...thanks....
dont forget the fact that is butt ugly as far as dp's go and that it hangs lower too...which is the main reason I dont like it...it's also mild steel..something to consider if you live in the snow belt or salty area...neither of which I have to worry about...but it's still something to think about...sure you can have it coated..but then you just jacked the price up to what a SS one would cost.

you did not buy a cheap car, so dont cheap out on mods. get a stainless steel unit. most popular one is M2, since you dont have to remove the studs. the HKS just looks cheap, with its ugly *** mild steel, and that huge indentation. also, not like it makes a huge difference, but a SS piece is significantly lighter than a mild steel one.

do it right the first time and get a SS dp.

I have both the HKS and Pettit in stock.
The HKS is easier to install, but the Pettit is not that bad.
Overall the bends on the pettit are nicer, but I sell alot more of the HKS probably because of price.
Power gains are going to be similar for both. A mildsteel downpipe is going to outlive your car anyway so it doesnt make much of a difference.

Does it really matter what it looks like? I can't remember the last time I looked under my car and admired my beautiful downpipe, heh since I have the HKS. Well even I had the M2, I doubt I'd look under my car to admire it. SS IS lighter than mild steel but I really don't think you'll notice the difference while driving your car and as Jason said... even a mild steel one will likely outlast your car. Bottom line... a dp IS a dp (for most people's intents and purposes).

No I haven't, that is my point. Neither of us really know. But you were the one that said it sucked...not me.

I am honest, I am sure it flows a bit less because it is a smaller pipe diameter. But the bigger point of my post was that IT DOESN"T MATTER. Unless you are going for huge hp gains, the difference between the HKS and the M2 is negliable.

I agree with the other guys, who cares how it looks? I drive my car about twice a week, and not in the winter, so why would I care if I have a mild steel downpipe on the car? It will probably last 10-15 years with the driving I am going to do.....

That is good enough for me. And with the money I saved, I can buy other mods...

Patrick

ahh to each his own...

I still prefer SS eventhough it's +~100...worth it to me and my car the way I see it. I guess I'm superfacial...or maybe not...my SSDP is not polished...maybe I should polish it.

I got the m2 as well and it is a monster. Piping is great, fitment is great, flow is great. Slopoke got the rx7fashion and he has had to grind down the flange to get it to fit. Overall I would recommend the m2. Just my $.02

Question price for install?

I just had my HKS DP installed at a muffler shop. It took them three hours and they charged $150. That seems very high.
How much did you guys pay?
Should have done it myself
