Best kind of oil to use

I got my FD in sept. 04 and since then put about 1500 miles on it. I need to get the oil changed because it has about 2300 miles on it now. The guy that i bought it from said to put in some 20w50 Synthetic oil. For anyone that lives in warm weather states what kind of oil do u use in ur FD. 10w30, 20w50? And why kind Valvoline, Pennzoil, Quaker State?? Let me know Thanks

In the summers here in KS (100 degree or higher) I use 20w50, the higher weight is better at keeping its viscosity at higher temps. I think anything but pennzoil is fine, whether it's synthetic or dino.

Brand doesn't matter all that much. Just use one of the popular ones (Castrol, Mobil 1, etc... I used the Royal Purple products myself). As for weight, unless you plan on tracking your car, 10w30. If you are going to track your car, run 20w50 on the track, but switch back to 10w30 for the street.

Castrol 10w30 for me. Keeps the car running healthy. Royal purpule is way too expensive for me.

10w40 has always been not recommended (as apparently it contains additives the other weights do not).

Use 10w30. Nobody runs their car hard enough on the street to benefit from anything heavier (if they do, they shouldn't be doing it on the street).

I use Amsoil 20w50 year round, Alex at Gotham Racing recommended this oil to me and I love it.

you beat good ol Rich to the punch!!

Rich loves his "exotic" oils

personally, this engine generates so much fuel dilution it's important to change the oil frequently (2k tops), but it also runs exceedigly hot and turbos degrade oil viscosity rapidly

so, like anything else on the FD, it's all about maintenance....don't go cheap or you'll pay for it later, use a good quaility synthetic (I like Mobil 1 15w-50) and change the oil often

*wonders if the supercharged engine from the new Shelby Cobra can be shoehorned into an FD"
