Best COLD air intake for ASP medium SMIC?

Ok, I've done the searching and can't come up with any great ideas. I can try to find a used M2 intake, but are there any other options out there. I don't want a hot air intake.

Thanks,
Justin Wade

I would imagine that you could have found what you are looking for if you used the "search" function...

Off of the top of my head, I know Shane Racing sells one:

RX7store.net also sells the Pettit TKT intake system.

I did use the "search" function and did not come up with your suggestion. I will check it out.

The TKT is not a genuine cold air intake as all it has is a crappy aluminum shield to protect the intake from underhood temps. The old FAQ generally notes it doesn't work well.

Any other ASP medium SMIC compatible true cold air intake ideas.

Thanks,
Justin Wade

Hmmm, the only true out of the box cold intake I can think of is the PFS intake SMIC combo.

Maybe you can check out the "cheap bastard" mod...

The carbon fiber M2 CAI boxes are really nice. It's what you're looking for. Keep your eye out in the For Sale section, they are for sale pretty often.

Whatever works for you. get the racing beat intake mod for the stock air box. It is not much different than the M2 as it ducts outside air to the filter. I do not know if anyone has ever done any side by side comparisons of all the intakes. I know there was a member one time who dyno'd 19 HP more with a TKT style intake. There is more to the pettit intake than the shield, it also has you open up an area next to the radiator for more airflow. (probably the same area the M2 setip used to get outside air).

Just because an aftermarket part looks better than stock.... Changing it does not necessarily make it better performing.

That can often be true. However the ASP intercoolers will not fit with the stock airbox. They require a narrow airbox like the M2.

Your not %100 percent correct on this. The Pettit intake is one of many schools of thought on Cold Air Intakes and it shields the radiator air from the intake andwhen the car is moving picks up plenty of cold air while still allowing that air to flow over the turbos and out the bottom of the car. If your thinking you'll find a cold air intake that won't heat soak your in for a very real world rude awakening.

just thought i'd mention i have the pettit intake and besides the fact that its a POS for the money (they must be making $300 on each sale) heat soak is ridiculous. i tested it with a remote temp sensor and shield or no, air around that filter heats up very quickly. and does not cool nearly as fast. its also too expensive but i'd buy any box if i had it to do again.

do these boxes also fit the large smic?
