best/cheapest place to get new engine?? any websites? how much??
A friend of mine has a '93 R1 which needs a new engine. Anyone have any websites handy of places that sell these fairly cheaply? Or know of any places (address/phone number). About how much are they?
thanks for the help
thanks for the help
you might want to check out Pineapple racing. I know that they build rotary engines for a pretty resonable price. If cost isn't an issue, I've heard wonderful things about KD rotary. You are probably looking at around 4-5K for a engine from KD.

. Seriously, you (hopefully) will never have to replace your engine, so have it done right the *first* time. The best advice I was ever given.Shoot Dave at KDRotary an email at kdrotary@enter.net He gets basically new motors from Malloy Mazda for less than $2k w/your core deposit. Tell him Rich sent you :p
I am in the same boat. I blew my engine after putting 10K on a pettit rebuild. I want to fix my ported engine but I would like a stock one to put in the car. I need something to get it running so I can drive it. I will fix the race motor later. It is also nice to have a back up incase this happen again. So basically I need an engine but I have no core to give up.

Here is KD Rotary website. www.kdrotary.com
Go to the Services/Prices link, that is where you would find the price for an engine.

GoodfellaFD3S...why didn't you have Ari Yallon from RX-7.com replace your engine? You are both from TX, it would have been cheaper to have the engine shipped over there. I never had any work done by them, but they are extremely nice and very helpful.

Try Malloy Mazda in Woodbridge VA (703)490-8170 or 8269. Mine cost with gaskets was 2,100.00. The parts manager goes out of his way to make factory parts affordable

Well I blew my engine in one of 2 ways: Overheating or detonation. I can't decide which killed it. I have a WOlf 3D which I have tuned with a wideband A/F meter. Marcus Williams of Turbo Street Fighhter helped me with alot of the tuning. The timing map could be higher but I chose to back it off a little on the top-end for safety. The wideband A/F meter is always in the car and being monitored.
Right before I was going to get my front mount from Williams I took the car to the track. It was in Feb so it was cold, and I ran the car alot. I noticed some knocking in the engine after a few runs and I stopped. Everything seemed fine, no lean A/F ratios. I drove to Houston to put the front mount on and noticed the engine temp was normal. On the drive back the temp stayed at a constant 210, 10 degrees higher than before. I pulled over and checked the water level and it was fine. So I drove home. After some investigating I found the fans weren't completely grounded (damn relays). So I rewired the whole mess with one relay and they were on high then. The car still overheated driving down the road (Not at a stand still). So I fabricated some aluminum ducting for the radator completely sealing it to the duct. I worked so hard on that and it looked so good, but it still overheated. On the way home that night I was driving rather slow from being tired, then it started to buck and wasn't responsive to the throttle. A/F meter was reading rich. And it took half throttle to creap along. I got it home and listened to it....sounded like it took a crap. Next day I checked the plugs and they looked normal (they only had 200 miles on them, all 9's). So I tried to start it and it smoked alot of white and didn't want to idle. Lots of water in the engine from the smoke and no compression in one of the rotors for the bad idle. So I towed it to my shop where it sits waiting to be repaired. I haven't taken the engine out too see whats wrong, I want to have a replacement there when I do remove it. I still haven't figured out what blew it up for sure, I will know sometime.
The engine was built and race ported by Pettit with 3mm seals. I don't expect them to fix it because it was probably something I did. So I am going to rebuild it my self. I still have one good rotor housing that is ported and don't want to get rid of the engine as a core for that. I am going to port another housing and get a new rotor and fix it back up.
Oh yah, that day at the track I filled up at another gas station, so it could have been crappy gas also. I should have added the race fuel before I went. I gotta learn the hard way though.
