Best bang for $ Stock Tires
Guys I'm looking to put some decent tires on my FD at a great price.
I need the stock 225/50/16. I was looking for used tires in the for sale section as I don't want to spend a ton. I may be upgrading wheels and want these to hold me over.
Can anyone suggest a decent brand with great price? Or a place to perhaps pick up some used tires?
Thanks

We have had great service from a set of Bridgestone Turanza LS-V 225/50R16 tires ("with UNI-T AQII") bought at 80,614 miles in June 2004. Mileage now is 111K, tires show very little wear, run quietly, hold pressure, and stick well. Price in 2004 was $214.99 each. (The previous Dunlops were quite noisy and did not ride as well.)

I just recently purchased some tires for my stock wheels and I was in the same boat as you. I finally decided on the Potenza Re11a tires. With extensive research, I came to the conclusion that these tires were one of the best out there at the moment. I noticed that Bridgestone was having a promotion " $70 visa card if you buy 4 tires" so I called up America's Tire and not only did they quote me the best price of $116/tire (they even beat online pricing) plus I got $70 back. Final total after rebate was $580 . This includes tax, disposal fee, lifetime rotate AND Refund, replacement if damaged.

I'll just throw this out....
You can also run 245/45/16 easily on the stock 8" wheel. With that size the speedometer is unaffected and it requires no modification of anything. I ran them for several years until they became, apparently, an obsolete size. But now they seem to making somewhat of a comeback. I just checked and Toyo Proxes T1R's are available @ $118 each from Tirerack. High Performance Summer with a 280 wear rating. Not bad IMO. http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....omCompare1=yes

It depends a bit on how you define a great tire, but...how about the Bridgestone RE760?
They have a 340 treadwear - decent lifetime - and about $100 ea at tire rack.
I tend to like better performance at the cost of lower life, but these are pretty decent handling.

ArmAnirx7 scored a great deal too, as the Bridgestone Potenza RE11's were my second choice since the price was higher. I would have bought the Bridgestones if I got his price.

Bridgestone RE760. I got a set a year ago, have put 4,000 miles on them. They are quiet and comfortable, and very good grip. I have limited wet road driving as I try to avoid driving in the rain, but these tires do work well in the rain. I live in the mountains of North Carolina and drive my car very hard. (At the right time & place... ie when it's safe)When you get to the limit of grip, they slide predictably. To add some "street cred." I'm a SCCA club racer with a few race wins and some local autoX wins.

I really like my original Dunlop Direzza Z1 Star Spec. Now, of course, they don't make them any more, but the Z2 is available at Tirerack for $124 per tire in the 225/50-16 size.

Hey Op,
For what you want to do it sounds like you just want decent tires for a good price until you get your rims. The tires we are all talking about are performance tires. Look into the Achilles ATR sport. they have good ratings and I personally have them on my Protege5 and they are good tires for the price. These should do the trick for you until you get your new rims.
