Benefits of aftermarket wastegate on stock turbos?

I plan on keeping the stock turbos for awhile, but plan on doing other mods right now. I have dp, cb, and intake, and pfc/power commander. I read through alot of the forum, and many members port their wastegate, what advantages does this have, do I need it? Am i able to purchase an aftermarket wastegate like hks, besides fuctionality, I think you cant beat the sound of an open wastegate . So my question is can I upgrade my stock wastegate and what are the benefits? Do i port the stock one? I would perferably like to buy an aftermarket wastegate, what are the benefits of this? I do not plan on going single for about 6 more months, but everything else will be added (smic,mp, etc) So please let me know what the advantages and disadvantages are ! Thank you for your time, it is much appreciated.

Bryan

No, the wastegate is internal to the stock twin turbo assembly.

You can use an external, but the amount of work involved would be insane. You'd have have to weld the stock internal gate shut. Then you'd have to find some way to fit a flange on the existing manifold. It would be a super expensive hack at best.

So basically, you need a manifold that was designed to use an external wastegate.

Yes you can port the stock one, the benefit is you won't get boost spike when you slap on a midpipe..
