VA belt tension

Can I use a scale pull 22 lbs and adjust belt to 1/4" deflection?

Or is there another method most are using.

Uh...I would just use your finger to measure the deflection. Should be about a pinky's width...and better to be a bit loose than tight. Or just put a scale or ruler up against the belt, push on it and see how much it gives with moderate pressure. You can always use a bathroom scale to see how much pressure it takes to exert 22 pounds....it isn't much.

^This is what I do...as Baja mentioned, erroring on the side of too loose. If I have any belt noise on cold start-up or acceleration, I simply tighten incrementally until it quits.
