Bearing or Brake?
Driver front is making some noise, so I got it up on jack stands the other day and spun it. It dosent make the noise the whole way round only a small area per revolution so I was thinking it was the brakes and not the bearings. But it dosen't seem to come or go based on how much braking pressure is applied which started to make me think it was the bearing. It is effected by RPM's in that it just gets faster as you go faster and eventually sounds like its making noise the whole time. Is it possible to have a bad bearing and not have it make noise the whole rotation? Never dealt with a bad one so I don't know what it sounds like when they start to go out. Any easy way to test without taking the wheel and caliper off before I buy parts to swap?
Thanks for the help, and if I have not been clear enough on something let me know.
Thanks,
Kyle

put the car in the air (on jack stand)grab the tire at 6 oclock one hand on the inside of the tire ane one on the outside. then try to push and pull the wheel away from the engine and towards the engine. this will test to see if you bearing is bad . oh you should have very little play when doing this.
The way you explained it. it does not sound like brakes, you would notice brake noise every time you applied the brake pedal.
hope this was of some help

When you spin a wheel with disc brakes, you can hear it rub slightly as the pads drag. But at speed it's normally silent.
I agree with checking out the bearings, but also make sure you have plenty of brake pad lining. I don't know if FD brakes have this feature, but many disc brake pads have a metal clip that will drag on the rotor when the pad is worn enough. The noise is an irritating squeal and designed to get the (uninformed) driver to take it to a shop for repair. If this is the case, replace the pads ASAP before the squealer damaged the rotors.
