Battery Relocation.. I know... another one.. but I need to clear things up...

Before people starts to bash on me.. I have read the old posts.. well dozen or so..

I need couple or few questions to ask of those who's into car stereo or have done relocation..

I want to relocate to rear passenger bin..

1. How big of a battery can I fit.. I would like to fit in Optima Blue Top.. just because it has few more cranking amp.. and couple of inches (maybe more) than yellow.

2. I have monster cable 1/0 AWG and I hear that I could hook it straight to the Starter... then do I need to run a wire back up to the fuse box from the starter?? or just from the Battery (rear bin) to the Starter??

3. Far as grounding, I'm planning on 1/0 to 2 x 4 AWG. One 4 to the frame and other split into 4x8 Awg distribute to make sure I get a good ground..

SO, what do you guys think.. Any suggestions, or if its too much.. I'm going with Monster cable all the way..

Also, I heard that its not good to put high amp fuse between the battery and the starter?? Is this true.. I need to just run the wire??

The answer is yes to everything.

1) How big of battery you can fit depends on the amount of cutting you want to do. I used a small Honda battery(51R, i think) and did not have to cut at all. The battery lives well being away from engine heat. No reason to get a giant one unless you like to run your stereo loud for long periods with the engine off. Kindof a waste installing an 80lb battery and then doing performance mods.

2) There is already a big wire running from the starter to the fusebox. So, you can run your positive wire to either.

3) Your grounding plan sounds good. Just be sure you have good connections between the engine and body.

4? 150 Amp fuse or circuit breaker in the positive line at the battery.

tmiked,
Thanks for the input..
I guess, if you think its waste to put in a huge battery.. I might then go with yellow.. I just felt that larger will maintain things more smoother.. but I guess I was wrong about that..

also, #4.. I didn't quite understand your comment.. So, its good to put a fuse.. or no on the fuse.. or circuit breaker??

Yes- put the fuse as close to the battery as possible. (less than a foot)

Really.. Hmm.. I guess someone who told me not to put a fuse between the battery to the starter was wrong..

I think he (nameless) told me that you want all the current going thru the wires to the engine.. and also that the fuse will blow.. But i guess what kind of fuse will make huge difference..

Pic of my wires..

I have already have fuse attatched to the wire.. I was going to cut it.. but maybe I should just attatch it..

Its 100A..fuse. and 1/0AWG is really thick..

run the cable thru the drivers side...you dont want all that power running next to your ecu.

100 Amp fuse may not be big enough.
Some on here run 150.
The starter draws a lotta current.
(i dont run one, dont tell anybody, OK ?)

A lazy man question.. Which side is the starter on.. Do you think I could run the 1/0 AWG wire thru the center of the car?? ie under the center consol to rear passenger bin.. or better to run it driver side door jam area to the passenger side bin??

I guess I could get a 150A fuse.. Or just run it straight.. like someone I know.. j/k

Nope I dont think I said that. I have been asking about fuses myself, they protect you... I would never tell you otherwise. If I did, I need to definitely take that back, you've got to have it. I dont know electricals all that well, so I would venture to say I wouldnt have told you to do something I wasnt sure about.... Again if I did, dont do it, a 150 fuse is what you need, put it as close to the post as possible!

Nameless.. Sorry.. i didn't mean you.. what I meant was that I didn't want to name that person who told me..

Sorry for the misunderstanding..

I do agree with you.. But also, i heard that the oem positive wire hooks straight from battery to the starter?? if that is true I guess I could run it.. Unless some how it gets short circuits before then I guess the fuse close to the battery definitely make sense.. I will stay safe and get a 150A fuse..

Once again, sorry for the confusion.. I didn't think of you Nameless..

The stock wiring has a 'fusible' link' between the battery and the starter. If you go directly to the starter the you have no pretection for the wire you ran. The link will not hurt anything with current going the other way through it from the starter to the fuse block.

I put my battery in the drivers bin and ran wires down the door sill. I realize most ppl say put it on the pass side. But, I like to use that bin + i used a little battery + i'm only 170 lb, so me and battery are still lesss than a lotta ppl.
It is important to keep it mounted low, keeping the CG low.

i relocated mine i would just run it to the fuse box not the starter. just for the simple reason power was there first. so i just wanted to change the battery location, not where the power goes first.

i had a 100 fuse in line from the battery.... but it blew in .5 seconds. lol

good luck on cutting the rear bins to make the battery fit. i removed mine, makes it alittle easyer.

also i dont think they will let you run at the track if you dont have the battery tide down right. you might even need a kill switch for it on the outside.
