Battery problems

Battery problems
I have a very low battery. Will that effect anything? For example sluggish behavoir, check engine light coming on. The car is just not its self. Thank you for yoiur help.

it should not affect anything after the car is started because your alternator is now producting about 14V to power everything. that's why it is constantly being recharged when you drive. a bad connection is another problem. check your terminals and clean them off and your engine grounds as well.

Be careful. Many times, if your battery is dying the connection to the alternator may get fried. This happened to me. Essentially the alternator is working too hard to keep the dying battery charged and it's more than the connection can handle. The metal connector right on top of the alternator was all black and nasty and the wires had started to get burned up. Check that connection for discoloration or other nasty crap. My mechanic cut off the messed up part of thenwires, reattached and polished the connector and bolted it back on. And I got a new battery of course.
