Jess Streeter could possible get those to your door for US$800 all-in. Again no mention of Bathurst in the description so seller may not know (or care).

Who knows how common these will show up.

Grab the wheel and go!

No mention of Bathurst. But says air bag inflator has been removed. Shipping live air bags is very difficult.

This seems like a must have and price is very good.!

It's a very clean example so yea it could have been removed very early on its life.

No mention of Bathurst but the look match the Bathurst X brochure.

Mazda use the same airbag charge across all the Mid 90s vehicle, you can probably source the charge at a local yard with the right plug for the FD.

Another Bathurst Was Here

Here is The Bathurst B pillar decal from a local car. That makes at least three BX that were here locally.

hella quik rx-7 05-17-21 02:18 AM

good info here...
i almost picked up a white one a couple years ago, but opted not to because i was told that the jdm cars had a lot less room.
something about the way the exhaust is ran on that side...can anyone confirm? im 6ft tall and already have issues getting in and out of mine.
also, i already had 2 fd's so i opted to get another supra instead. it would be cool to own a stock example of this model.
kinda wish i would have purchased the car because now they have shot up in price. was recently looking to sell/trade one of mine to pick up a rhd
car because i miss shifting with my left hand...

SwappedNA 05-17-21 08:47 AM

Sorry for the delay everyone. After I got the car back the weather was pretty rainy, and then I had some real life obligations. If someone does want to verify the chassis, its FD3S-305795.

I'm fairly certain the wheel is aftermarket, even though it is a Momo.

How about the Pillar sticker?

Redbul 05-17-21 10:59 AM

Late 1995 likely.

My notes for JDM production for 1995 are as follows:

First car of the year: 301812
Last Car: 306399
Difference: 4587
Daily average: 13 (12.57)

I have no idea if the plant would operate 24/7/365.

Subject car: 305795
Difference from car one: 3983
As a % of total Production: 87%
Times 365 day:/year: 318 *(17.55)

As records show the cars were produced largely sequentially, I would predict your car was produced on the 318th day of the year (Nov. 15, 1995)(plus or minus a few days to allow for weekends.)

This would land the car in Type R Bathurst X time frames.

Which does not explain the bins.

You could examine the B Pillar on the inside to see if there was ever any seat back retaining brackets mounted. I would expect that the welded in nuts would be there, but are there and scratches/dust shadows?

Does your rear window show signs of blue tint?

Despite the brochures, it might have been possible that the buyer ordered bins?

12 cars a day is almost "build by hand" pace. Could random option requests be granted?

Was this car actually slated to be an RS or RZ and changed to Bathurst at the last moment?

Someone may be more willing to dive into the Russian site. This will yield more precise production info. It is always interesting to check which cars were in sequence before and after.

Usually it is quite random.

My math above could be quite off. It may not allow for halts in production, cars destined for non-JDM markets and/or other factors.

Redbul 05-17-21 11:23 AM

Tail u what.

The whaletail spoiler is consistent with the switch over to that tail for Version 4 cars (in 1996) and is consistent with the literature. The chromed gas peddle may have been a standard feature of he BX or a factory or later added option.

just based on the current ND production the factory runs about 6 days a week. the USA 1995 production was kind of in two chunks, about half in April 1995, and the other half in December 1995. the FD wouldn't be legal as a 1996 model, so they ran off a really late batch of 1995's. i would expect Japan to be more even, but i don't know (and don't have a way to check!)

i can tell you it is a 1995 though, the "1996" is a 400001+ vin. in Japan they would say Version.

Redbul 05-17-21 11:41 AM

Wheel you do.

The list above shows there was a Momo non-airbag version of the wheel.

But it may not have looke dlike th one in your car.

Yours is possible a "period correect" aftermarket momo.

It be curious to see if you still have the expected airbag wiring under the dash or if there is evidence of it being cut off.

If it is indeed a factory non-air bag wheel, that would lend to the theory your car was a last minute switch to bathurst designation.

Redbul 05-17-21 11:55 AM

Still foggy.

Existence or non- existence of fogs may also be a clue. Any evidence fogs were once there?

The Type RB brochure above shows fogs and the fogs switch.

\\My notes show the 300xxx Vin started being used in1994. So blue tint Bathurst may have version 3 (300000) or maybe version 2 (200,000) Vin numbers . My notes show that in 1995 500 cars were produced for US (terry Hahn email) giving assumed production fo r the year of 5087 (Brian Long says 5202, which might include other markets)

yes you're right, the JDM catalog says 7/1994-, the first North American car is 9/02/1994

there are about 5 different markets? its bugging me, i saw something that listed them the other day, but its Japan, North America, Europe, i think Australia

According to Long's book the first use of the Bathurst name was on a Type R - II in Japan (late 1994). It seems that car was a two seater (so bins) and had blue tinted glass. Only 350 were made. Status of the two oil coolers is not mentioned, but maybe can be assumed. to be there. No big deal you can get a used set of twin oil coolers for about US$400 (check rotarypwr on Ebay). The right hand side cooler is usually harder to come by, as is the longer front oil line that runs right from the block. It is longer than the base which normally runs left and down to the left cooler.

hello do you know more info about type R-II bathurst? I think my car is type R-II bathurst but i dont know what the differences, csn you help me?
already searched anywhere but no info about that
thankyou

Your VIN number would be a good clue. Otherwise I believe I have included the reported features of an R-II Bathurst in a post above. So basically R-II equipment plus the several Bathurst add-ons.

If you have the blue-tinted hatch glass, it would be great to see a picture of it.

Also if you car has the bins, it would be good to see a picture of your "backseat" area.

were you ever able to scan this entire brochure? I also own 1/777 of the Bathurst X’s. Grade 4 Won at auction april 2020 at USS Nagoya. I looked all over to find that brochure with no luck. Id like to replicate the Bathurst X decal since mine is gone.

It seems like the majority of them are gone. What color is your car?

I'm in the process of actually getting the decals reprinted, waiting on some revisions I requested back from the designer.

RotaryNoob420 12-07-21 01:34 PM

Attached are photos of my grade 4 Bathurst X from USS Nagoya. The previous owner already tastefully upgraded to 99 spec front bumper, wing & tail lights :) as well as some information i can contribute on the bathurst X spec taken from the book “I love FD3S RX-7”

nice! I didnt realize black cars got a different color scheme decal than the white. I was going to measure by eye off the photos what size i think the decal should be and have someone do the same.

Redbul 12-07-21 01:43 PM

Yes, there it is.

That brochure is a nice find.

That steering wheel is rare now.

Redbul 12-07-21 01:52 PM

It would be interesting to see what the full part numbers for the 040 (dash harness) and 030 (instrument harness) are.

If you ever get that deep into the dash.

Yep, they indeed did. Once I get my decals in hand I'll take some photos and post them up.

Do you by any chance have the pages from that publication that shows the BB B-X? The ones that are posted here are for 96+
