I can't imagine that un-ducted intercooler sitting directly above the radiator fans would work out very well for a 12 hour race. is there water injection to help out?

Care to share your intake temps?

Good luck in the race! Glad to see FD's still competing

We will have it on our facebook page when its ready. This car has been competing with this setup for a while. The intake temps are not hazardous. Its been doing 12 and even 24 hour endurance racing for a while. Car runs 12 psi I believe.

We are hoping to have edited video after the race, showing the ecu data overlay ed on in car footage.

It will be interesting to see how this underdog Rx-7 does against mostly high end exotics;

Below picture is from last year's race.

We are sending Ric a BorgWarner EFR and some other goodies very soon to help up the ante.

Hi all, we won't have live streaming from inside the car but we will be uploading video footage as we go hopefully (I need to analyse data, fuel usage, keep track of tyre wear, monitor Race Control radio etc so I might not get time til after).

But the V8, Bathurst 12 Hour, Supercars, Bathurst 1000 Race, Mt Panorama – Australia site will be live streaming; most of the coverage will be of the cars in the outright class; Audi R8s and so on. Last year a Ferrari 458 did well until it started to rain.

I think last year the intake temps got up to about 65-70 degrees, but it was stable. That and coolant temp are some of the variables I get to monitor.

Aww damn i wanted to see the incar footage haha , And wow those intake air temps are kind of high ( I dont know if they are for a car driving in an endurance Race ) But when I see those intake air temps down herei n miami I'm in panic babyying car mode I floored it once with my intake air temps at 60 , and my knock reading went up twice what it normally is at. when my intake air temps are from 30-45

( I still have stock IC its not long for this world )

Just out of curiosity is there any reason why you guys dont run the duct? rules against it?

If the highest it got was 70 for a short period , and lower normally I guess its not so bad LOL

Wink

Wow, I'd never lap with intake temps that high

Tem120, 'side mount' is a term usually not thrown about in the rotary universe.... you're talking a stock mount?

yes yes I am , I ment to say the stock mount. side.. just sorta slipped out LOL , no mid engined FD's here ... LOL

But I dontknow I saw the video on my none laggy pc is it me or is hte radiator in the stock location ? and that intercooler just sorta there.. like stock mount but without hte ducting or anything , tilted a bit to clear the hood . But I dont think thats a true V mount .

Maybe they have restrcitions like they cant modify the body or stock locations ? or something . But I think that car would benefit from a nice duct or a true V mount or maybe power just isnt the main focus worried more about regidity and reliability with the radiator getting the bulk of the air flow , but still a duct would still keep all taht and just feed cold air into the inter cooler ..

I'm sure we're not exactly smarter then the car's Engineers .. so Im just trying to find out why they went duct less , what benefit would they gain because of it , and well it seems to be working since liek stated above teh car has seen multiple endurance races . Maybe the air flow is enough through the radiator when the car is going fast all the time ?

Actually, the car in the pic isn't Ric's - despite the labelling - that said, pretty sure he runs those too! That car was entered again for this year but shortage of money probably scratched it....along with a couple of others, lol.

I'm aware that's not Ric's car, it was just a great photo. I was never able to figure out who or which company owns it.

A shot from yesterday below...

Wow... 60-70C intake air? Again, as others have stated, not sure of the rules and if "stock" mount location is all that's allowed. Even so, if a proper duct were fabricated I've gotta believe it would run significantly cooler. You've got a ton of air escaping flowpath with that current setup. Anyone aware of their class rules? Would a properly ducted Vmount be allowed?

I shudder to think of the demands a track like bathurst would make on an already poor fuel consumption. You would be losing so much time just refuelling and watching the other cars go past. Looks like your garage is fairly close to the finish line. Good luck, hope it doesn't rain for you.

Well good luck to Ric Shaw's team! As for the air temps, lets see what they say when they analyze the data during and after the race. It's one think to speak theory; application and something else - especially during these conditions (12 hours).

AdaptronicAus - I'm looking to you to give us a full update on the data when you have a chance. Good luck and make everyone proud.
