base is beautiful........

While I like all the models of the FD, I still like the simple elegance of the base model.....it is just sort of understated, yet hints at more....sort of like a lounging leopard.....

I agree. I like the "stealthiness" of the base. Without the wing on the deck the rear of the car flows very nicely. I too would like the front just a little more agressive. I am thinking of adding a horizontal splitter. Not huge, but big enough to give the front end a little purpose.

I have a base w/ a R1 front and rear spoiler. In addition, mine came with cruise, CD player. It's everything you need and nothing you don't! I definitely recommend the front spoiler. It does make the stance a lot more aggressive. Don't bother with a CF or fiberglass one. They will crack. The stock rubber one or a 99' spec rubber one are pretty good. I noticed a little less noise under the car w/ the front spoiler so hopefully that makes the car a little more stable at high speed. Remember that the base models (or FD in general) are light!!

Ditto. It just looks a little TOO plain for me, but the rest of the car looks nice and clean

That's exactly why a Base was my first choice and I held out until I found exactly the one I was after!

I did add the R1 front spoiler which I believe is a real plus, but that's all I'll add.

I don't understand why more people aren't going after a Base, but my feeling is that as time goes by the Base will be the most sought after FD!

kelrx7r1, Don't Do It!!!!!

Original quote by kelrx7r1

really working on looks this year plan to add either the whole cwest kit or mazdaspeed gtc and conversion lights
Don't RUIN your Base model with a body kit or light conversion. You'll regret it!

Can't beat the base. It's got everything you need, nothing you don't (bose, rear wiper), the best seats, no rear wing (better in my opinion), and you really focus on the curves of the car.

Damn Vosko.......you could SHAVE by that thing! Beautiful car!
How much closer to the ground is the R1 lip over the stock?
'Cuz I rub my stock lip FAR more than I like to.......
