Barn Find ;) Amemiya Full Exhaust

Well everyone,

It's about as close to a "barn find" as import owners get. My son's friend owns a Honda tuning shop here in Phoenix and bought a container of Honda motors about 12 years ago from Japan. When the container arrived in Long Beach, one of the items in the shipment was an Amemiya full exhaust (damaged but still useable). The exhaust was for sale for more than 10 years in their shop, but had no takers due to the damage. I inquired about it last month and dug it out of their parts pile in the back of their building. My plan is to get the tip fixed and probably skip using the midpipe/muffler.... we'll see.

We contacted Amemiya last week and they confirmed that it is indeed one of their "Gravity Mufflers" from the 1995 timeframe. One of their early attempts at what has become their signature "Dolphin Tail" exhaust. It will be interesting to hear how it sounds once I've cleaned it up and installed. I'll keep you all posted!

Here's some pics of the exhaust "as received."

Its probably fairly quiet, certainly the later Dolphin exhausts are among the more civilised setups. Nice tone but not deafening. They do rust really badly around the welds where the in and out pipes join the muffler box, I've seen a couple split completely away....not that that's likely to be an issue in Arizona I guess!

I hate you so much. Btw I have a good friend with this exhaust on his FD, it sounds absolutely amazing especially with the multiple backfires!

Hoping it sounds great. I'm currently running the Racing Beat dual tip with SR motorsports resonated MP. I'm hoping this setup will provide a different "tone" but be similar in volume. We'll see.

The sound level is comparable but the music the RE plays is out of this world.

Probably not at this point. Would like to keep the entire exhaust as a "set."

The exhaust is going to be very quiet, similar to a racing beat exhaust. I have had the SS and ti version on my car, sounds good but IMO it lacks aggression and throatiness.

Anyone know how the stock RE muffled midpipe flows compared to a resonated MP? Just curious if anyone has experience with the full exhaust or is everyone just running the catback??

Flows exactly like a resonated mp, nothing special about it.

OK guys.... back from repair. Hope to have it installed this weekend with some sound clips comparing my current RB dual tip to this one. Until then, here's a couple pics of the repaired tip.

I saw that exhaust about 5 years ago sitting on the shelf at a dyno day and told him I would buy it... He acted like there was nothing there

this exhaust is quieter than the racing beat. My friend had the exact same one (the non canister version) and it was very mellow sounding. especially with the resonated mp.
