I know a guy with the Dual N1s, and I am telling you, it is border line rice without any cats. Personal opinion? Nope. I get the same thing from several other people.

One thing I noticed, though, is that when I had my precat gutted, it made a VERY high pitched noise top end. Almost like a Ferrari. I've been wondering if that's because of the smaller diamter in the elbow of the precat or if it had something to do with that empty space where the precat use to be.

I am using a Pettit exhaust with HKS DP and it sounds great. It's not weed wacker cause I still have the cat' so it's more motorboat but very deep. Drone noise only on vacuum. Gitls say they can recognize my car at least a block away. I can't tell it being that loud inside of it. I think mostly it's distinctive and then throaty load.

If the RE Amemiya dolphin was 1/2 the price, i'd consider than one over the Racing Beat.
I have NO cats and it doesnt sound like a weedwacker, but the Borla IS a little restrictive....

Pettit went to Borla with the design when the FD first came out. It has a 2.5" inlet and dual 2" outlets. After a while, people realized 3" is the way to go with an FD, and since there wasn't a big market for it, they discontinued it. Eventually, I will upgrade to a Muffler Borla has. It's got a 3" inlet and dual 2.5" outlets. Duel 3" tips will look good It will have to be custom job. Just remember, any HIGH QUALITY muffler shop can easily bend and weld brackets to the muffler.

I've always wondered what a flowmaster would sound like on an FD...

So my Pettit exhaust is probably made by Borla? I have the one with the single 5&1/4" polished tip. Mine doesn't sound like a weed wacker, more like a motor boat. I think the piping goes from 3" to 4" though, will have to measure it. If you have one custom made, I suppose you can get the pipes mandrel bent and you say they should easliy add and weld hangers, then that leaves the flange.

Apexi N1 exhaust WITH silencer. Get the most airplane-like sound.

The N1 Dual is definitely for someone who wants attention. If you've been to Marcus', ask to listen to Andy's car with a single turbo (automatically means a dp too, for those new to FDs), MP, and the N1 Dual. I was there when he first dyno tuned it with the single, and EVERYBODY in the commerical complex heard it. There was even talk about closing the bay doors, to not annoy the neighbors.

My N1 Dual was borderline with a the stock twins, DP, Random hi-flow cat AND the silencers, but when I drove back from Austin after going single (again, DP by default, Random hi flow cat, N1 Dual, and silencers) - I was ready to shot myself. I wouldn't be surprised if they heard me in the next county, it was so loud.

The RB is quite a bit deeper with less of the raspiness, and is oK for the moment. May try to see if I can squeeze a resonator on there. If not, I'm going back to stock, or maybe try putting together a Borla based system from scratch.

Funny, I have heard that about Batman too.

Deep exhaust tone? RB or M2 dual; the only choices hands down.

Borla likes to use those funny intercooled tips. If it doesn't habve it, then it isn't a borla.

The shop in my area DOES have a mandrel bending machine. Find a good shop, and they will have one, too.

all fd exhaust's sound the same when you are running full exhaust they all have that high pitched sound as you get higher in the rpm's, my blitz sounds just like my friends n1 duel, another guy i know has the racingbeat single at wot it is high pitched just my 2 cents.

not sure if i understood what u meant by high pitched.....

most of the import single tips sound alike........ the difference in sound are amongst the dual tips and domestic models or both single and dual tips........ from wat I have heard....

should of been more specific, the single tip canister exhausts, at wot they all get that scream i have just noticed that they all sound the same, duel tip exhaust's do produce a diffrent sound,m2and racingbeat.listen to nocab72's clip of his jic very high pitched exhaust note, the higher he gets in the rpm's.

These guys are right, most of the canister exhausts sound very similar.. probably some variance in Db levels depending upon the difference in the mufflers, but the tone is usually close. I have a Blitz Nurspec exhaust, and while I love the quality and price.. the thing is not quiet by any means. It sounds very mean in the mid rpm range, like an angry chainsaw at WOT, and has a low rumble at idle. I am installing a single turbo right now and I am scared to hear what the exhaust note will be now, I will go to something lower profile with dual tips probably so I can drive around town without worrying about a cop casing my car.

I am not a sound wave specialist, but here are my 2 theories on why single tip usually sound the same and IMHO like poo poo rice:

1. Single tips usually are straight through with a huge diameter

2. Dual tips have 2 sound outlets..... the sound waves hit each other giving it a unique sound depending on the design of the tips.

Anyone care to comment>?..... sounds experts join in.....

I still have no confirmation that my Pettit was made by Borla. I love the sound but think it looks ricey and would prefer all polished stainless steel. And now adays a 5" tip doesn't necessarily mean 4" piping. I've seen big tips of Ford Escorts and Honda Civics.

It is loud on cold warmup, but then it calms down to a quiet yet deep race car idle. The VW bug next to me was 3x louder! Drone noise is only noticable on deceleration but that's how my g/f's recognize me from blocks away. It does not scream at WOT like Apexi duals do. This is with a down pipe and stock cat'.

I just put a 3 in mid resonated midpipe and catbacb on from www.vrsexhaust.com. This uses dual magnaflow stainless steel mufflers. It sounds great, and my car has never pulled harder. This thing rocks. He sold me both for 580 shipped.
