bada boom dada bing - no more FD for me
AHHHHHHHH *****
a funny thing happened to me two weeks ago - I left my house in the morning and the next thing I was aware of was waking up in hospital 7 hours later.
Apparently my beautiful rx7 went into a spin on a dual carriaeway before rolling and going down an embankment on it's roof. My 7 is no onger as beautiful as it was. The cops have yet to tell me what happened. Becasue I got smacked on the head so hard I don't know what the hell happened. I can only assume that someone clipped me on the wet and sent my **** spinning past my nose.
I will send some pictures as soon as they are in a digital format.

Thats scary when stuff like that happens. You know something happened, but you have no idea what. The brain works in mysterious ways, when they start telling you about it, you might start to remember it.
Good luck, and I'm glad you're not seriously injured.

thanks for all the words of support guys
the good news is that my insurance has offered me a decent value for my car. The only problem I face now is what to buy next. EVos and Suburus are tooooo ugly (IMO) but I would love an S4.
My only rule is that the next car is HEAVY and not likely to spin like my FD.
By the way - what do you think about Mustangs, in the UK there are a limited amount availble through private import but they look like lots of fun. Buying a stang here would be unique but a pain in the **** for buying parts.

TRUST ME, NOOOO MUSTANG.... You can have your American muscle and all it's power, but remember American handling comes with it. Unless you plan to take voyages out on the ocean, there is no room for that boat on the road.

I'm with the no mustang crowd. The newest Cobras are very quick, but the GTs don't handle that great, and the mid 1990s cobras weren't particularly fast. They can be modified to run very quick, but the don't have the balance that a 50/50 weight distribution car does. Plus, if you want an American sportscar, get a used C5 corvette, a Z06 can run 12s quarter miles stock and out-handles the RX-7 stock to stock. Might be a bit out of your price range, I honestly don't know, but in your situation, I would go for another RX-7 or a MkIV Supra Turbo. Thats my opinion about the matter. There are a couple of guys on here with Mustangs, both GTs and Cobras, they might be able to give a different opinion about this one. Good luck, Josh

I'm a Ford guy to the bone, and I'd have to say, unless you can get a NEWER ('99+) Cobra, I say don't get a Mustang at all. Also, it really depends on what you want... if you want RAW straight line performance, the Mustang isn't for you, as LS1 Camaros and Firebirds are somewhat faster, and has a slightly larger aftermarket. Cobras can be modded, but not to the extent as LS1 motors can. With Cobras, all you can do is Supercharge it. Sure, there are cam kits out there, but you better get ready to refinance your flat to afford all 4 CAMS. With the LS1, there is only 1 cam, as it is only an OHV car -- thus the cost is minimal. If it were up to me, I'd wait until the new bodystyle comes out (Late 2004), it has better exterior and interior build-quality and looks and compared to the dated SN95 Mustangs ('95-'04). One thing, though, is that the reliability with LS1 Fbodies and SN95 Mustangs is that the reliability is GREAT. The Modular 4.6L (SOHC/DOHC) and LS1 motors are built tough, I'll tell you what. I know guys who have run their 4.6L SOHC motors to well over 200k miles, and upon breaking the motor down, the motor looked like it had almost never been driven. The bearings showed some signs of aging, but that was about it.
Anyways... Mustangs (GT, Bullitt, and Cobra) are neat in the fact that you CAN get them to be fast, and handle well, but in the end, I think a person like you (who came from a FD) will wish to get that 'ol FD again. If you want reliability, V8 exhaust notes, and straightline performance, go with the Stang.

Comparing a Mustang to an FD is like comparing a Pinto to a Buick Grand National. The Mustang is a BOAT, it handles like ****, the interior is ****, it lacks power, drives like ****, feels like ****. Did I mention I REALLY despise Mustangs?
The only 2 decent cars America makes is the Corvette Z06 and Viper (and I must say, even the decent handling Corvettes feel like a boat in comparison). If I were you I'd be looking into an S4 or used E36 BMW M3 (preferably the BMW). Two cars that actually are better than the FD in a few regards and seems like it's exactly what you're looking for.
Glad to hear you're OK after such a severe accident, many aren't so lucky as you...
P.S. here's a picture of my friend's 1998 E36 M3 to help coerce you into making a good decission

You know Mustangs are nice lots of torque, I gust put a mustang 5.0 i n my jeep cj and it flat out rocks. but when it comes to cars and their performance it comes down to power to weight. Dont get a heavy car get another 7. And learn how to drive it to it max just dont go past the envalop.

Although the interior is subjective to the viewer, take a look at the inteior of a 2003 Cobra sometime, you'll see that it is far from "****," but then again, that area is subjective.
Please keep in mind that I'm not trying to flame you, it's just that you can't really argue about something that is factual -- sure you can argue that the Mustang may "look like ****," "drive like ****," and "feel like ****," but when you say that the car is a "BOAT" and that it "lacks power," you are just spewing out verbal diarrhea.
Don't get me wrong, I love *BOTH* FD's and Cobras, but you just can't compare both -- they both aim at different crowds.

WaLieN, having driven a Mustang Cobra at Bob Bondurants school of high performance driving (went there with my uncles for fun), I can tell you it does indeed feel like a boat! As for the .89G's, the FD has shown 1.2G's around a track on street tires tested in 1993 with about 5 other cars by car and driver. The Bob Bondurant thing was a total dissapointment, the only fun I got to have was with the little go-karts! Another thing comes to mind when I think of Mustangs as well: at the RS-R drift festival in April a couple of stunt drivers were hired to showcase some domestic cars to the crowds (atleast this is what I assume). There were 2 mustangs and a corvette. The Corvette actually did look pretty impressive and was able to do some nice slides for the crowds...the Mustangs however were a joke! The stunt drivers couldn't even get decent controllable slide out of them! The most impressive thing I saw was them doing burnouts with their foot on the brake to make it long and sustained, and one guy got the car going in reverse and flipped it around. One thing I will say for Ford though is they might for the first time in a long time have a decent car in the makes with the GT prototype. Only time will tell though if Ford is actually capable of building a good sports car and not a silly fascade to one with a fanatic following of people who don't know any better not to buy them! Don't take this as an insult to you, I just really despise horribly built cars.

OH MY GOD TRUE STORY, there I was standing there at a bowling alley's circular driveway, waiting for my friend to pick me up and along came this big bad stang all revving it's huge engine. Well he came closer, (to show off of course), and curbbed his tire, you'd imagine that this would sound awful and the guy would be embarrassed, but it did more than that, the guy's WHOLE WHEEL fell off. P O S
Like I said before you can have all the American muscle you want, but with that you get your American handling.
