i have a lot of drive line slop, i have new motor mounts and new diff bushings.

so i replaced the cat recently and noticed that the u joints at the end of the transmission that connect to the drive line seem bad. the driveline can be moved around and appears to have alot of slop. this is right above the main cat area. anyone else have this issue?

 

I've never heard of an FD with bad driveshaft U-joints. The FC turbo driveshafts are similar, and I NEVER saw a bad FC turbo driveshaft. Non-turbo FC driveshafts go out quite frequently, however.

That said, it's impossible to check a driveshaft with it on the car. You have to remove it and test the full range of motion on the U-joints.

Most driveshaft failures I've seen involved a GREAT deal of chassis vibration that increased with speed, and would come/go as you were on and off the throttle. I've not seen it manifested as drivetrain slop.

I haven't ever heard of bad u-joints in an FD. That doesn't mean it can't happen but it's rare.

I have a lot of slop in my driveline and after removing my differential, it is the actual diff, not the gears, half shafts, etc. Maybe you have a similar problem?
