is this a bad thing?

hey guys,
my friend just bought a 93 with about 87,000 miles on it. the thing is bone stock and in great shape, but my friend was telling me he found a small puddle of coolant under his engine one day. he says its only happened once but hes freaking out. he also mentioned that the car puts out light white smoke on startup...i did a search and this seems normal but any advice on the random coolant leak? i'll try and post more information as it is available...any advice/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
thanks,
nopistonsforjoe

i THINK the coolant seals might be going. Im no expert, but ill try n expain. When the coolant seals start to get old n brittle, the pressure from inside the combustion chamber push the coolant backwards, and makes it overflow. Thus, the coolant leaks out of the car. Please correct me if I'm wrong

I hope your friend got a smokin' deal on that smokin' FD3s, and that he has about $5K set aside for a rebuild.

The reason it only happened once is that his coolant level is now dangerously low, and dropping fast.
