I have an old, small halon that I've carried ever since the first 3rd gen RX7 engine fire recall. I also carry a bigger dry chemical extinguisher as a backup, because I'm too cheap to buy a fancy clean one.

Looking at the photo in the original post, the battery looks melted and charred, but in one piece...

My first FD was a burn project, I was able to get it back together and was driving it and it caught fire again! I was using the wrong kind of clamps (BMW fuel injection clamps and their 8mm hose). Went back to the spring clamps after that fiasco.

This is my biggest fear and the exact reason I but a fire extinguisher in mine. I am happy to see you're okay. Good luck with getting her back on the road

Damn. Sorry to see that man. It's good you're safe and hope your FD gets back on the road sooner than later. I've always looked into buying a fire extinguisher for my FD but never did it, but this gave me that final push and a little bit of education on which one to get!

Update again, Car got totaled out and insurance hauled it off to co-part (you can find it by just typing RX7 on Copart, look for the burned husk), I didn't think paying the 6k they wanted was worth it because 1, wouldn't have been cost effective at this point in time to now not only redo the interior but also the drive train id be essentially rebuilding an entire car which sucks because i planned to keep the car till i died, 2nd, I didn't have anywhere to keep the car while rebuilding it and 3, i have my eyes on another FD being sold locally hopefully i can snag it but honestly all-state (my insurance) is really keeping me from another RX-7 as I've yet to be paid by them and they kind of fucked my insurance cost (been looking at Hagerty, anybody have experience with them?) Also regardless if i get another RX-7 or not fire extinguishers are definitely going into the car. And lastly thanks for the safe wishes, i am fine just been really bummed since it all happened, hopefully i can snag it and start Project Money Pit V2 otherwise ill be waiting another few years until another clean FD pops up.

As always thanks for stopping by and good luck and stay safe (AND DONT GO TO MCDONALDS FOR ICECREAM **** IS BAD JUJU)

Hagerty I can't seem to get a decent quote from them. I've had other people tell me they have agreed value policies for under 100 dollars a month, for some reason they're quoting me 2000+ a year for a 30,000 Agreed value policy. I have great credit, married, almost 40, no accidents, tickets or claims in the past 5 years.... I don't get it.

crazy. I’m doing more agreed value than that for well under $100. That said, are you registering it as a daily? (I don’t know if they work that way as I was only looking for very occasional use)

3000 miles per year, show use and performance modified to 400hp. that's it. I've got 7 other cars so it's not my DD or anything like that. I'm guess it's the whole living in FL thing?

I can attest to the value of working with Hagerty, I have had 2 claims in the last 12 years with them plus handled work on some of my customers cars that were insured with Hagerty.. One of my cars was totaled, they allowed me to buy back the remains( the engine and transaxle were $25,000 and I needed them to transplant into the replacement), they immediately sent me a check for the Agreed Value. In the second case I got an estimate, again they sent me the check so that I could handle the repair. My experience with them is that many times there is additional damage once the car comes apart, they always came up with additional funds. Some of these vehicles were rare and old, parts were hard to come by and prices on some of these things had to be renegociated, Hagerty always stepped up. They also can help locating parts. They always give the check to you, you can repair it yourself if you are capable.
Also even though I had 2 claims with them they never increased my premium. Currently I have my FD (30,000) and Lightning insured with them. In the case of the Lightning I had it with AAA but finally got the bright idea to take it to Hagerty, premium for a year is the same as 6 months at AAA. I would recommend Hagerty to anybody, they are great.
Dave

Sorry for the fire.
agreed value classic car with state farm for my low mileage rx7 is very very affordable, less than $40/month. High deductible 2k. No claims in several years. Married with kids.
I've never had an issue with state farm claims

Hope you get back in an rx7 with a good agreed value policy.
