you guys can alwyas make another copy, cut the tips and ends off the 2 keys and have it tiged back together. kinda hard to do but it is doable. you just gotta find someone which can weld very well.

jt-imports also has efini keys, black and red(spirit r, i believe). my best advice is to have the key cut at a reputable lock smith and not some hardware store. efini keys should always work when cut right since they are mazda products.

Took the pic but had to use my phone again, the camera just couldnt take it because the flash was so bad. Sorry for the poor quality, I guess you have to look at them in person.

I have the same key. It's a mid '90's Protege/Miata key. I haven't had mine cut yet, but it does fit into the cylinder and it's not too short (same exact size as my current FD key).

I'm going to try and get it cut this weekend at the Mazda dealership.

Well, technically there is no "RX-7" key that looks like that. However, it seems most of the keys were of the same layout for that era from the Mazda stable.

Ok, it's says "Mazda" on it, but I don't see it saying "RX-7"... Am I not on the right page?

The one I got was off eBay. It was labeled "Protege/Miata" key (I can't remember the years, but it was mid-90's), but it's the same key just silver, not gold. If you look on eBay, I'm sure he has more for sale:

I just checked, and I bought the same key blank from the same seller last September and mine matched up and works fine. It looks like it has the same key code PF53. They must have messed up somewhere along the line, but I bet it will be difficult to get your money back or getting a correct replacement, since it has been cut. Still, it is worth trying.

here are some pics of my key. Sorry the flash washed it out a bit

In this last pic at the tip of the key on either side you may be able to see where I filed it to make it work, but other than that I have no problems at all with fitment.

Works perfectly, just that the craftmens on the key sucks ***, cause I broke the key already. I'll post pictures of it...

Just an update. I had my key cut at Mazda this morning (using the VIN, not making a copy) and it works just fine.

Update:
Had mine cut by a bunch of jerk offs at the local home depo and the key does not work. It will if you jiggle it. It is the correct key you just need a professional to cut it.

I am now out $20 bucks. I like the key and will order another. I will then due what MAHJIK did or what others had stated earlier and get the new one cut by a professional.
