Leaking AST will not effect idle. You will eventually get a low coolant signal.

Check the code. Considering there's no electrical connections for the AST, there's no way the ECU would know it's bad.
Check the cel code, that might be the source of your bad idle.

...and at the risk of sounding redundant, you are going to replace the AST before you drive the car again, aren't you? As you probably know, the AST can have a sudden and catastrophic leak producing engine meltdown in short order. By the time you know there has been a major leak and the engine is overheating your rotary can be toast. You're lucky you caught this minor leak early.

Let us know you fixed your problems and everything turned out alright. We'll all sleep better.

irratic idle can be caused by:
a vacuum leak <---get some carb cleaner and spray in the rst nest area and intake manifold. If your idle responds when you spray you know you have a leak

TPS sensor<--- rather asy to check do a search under damian he did a good write up

and an exhaust leak<--- I haven't done that yet so I have no input for you.
