Backing-Out An ECU Connector Pin
I'm doing Howard C's mod to make the PFC flash the CEL. Does anyone have any tips on how to back out one of these connector pins? I've been literally fooling around trying to liberate one of the 4 extra pins for hours now. This should be a 5 minute job...
Is there a trick? What does the ideal tool look like? I have a straight pick dental tool that fits in there nicely, zero luck. There's a plastic clip in there, I need to lift that away from the metal (towards the top of the connector), correct?
Help appreciated.

Try this type of tool. They come in a wide range of sizes.. They're great to have around.

I used a small screwdriver, the kind that are made for Glasses. My dad a big set of them, so I just tried a few till I got one that was almost instant.

On the back side (where the wires come in) of the connector there's a "door" that folds up. You can see the retaining tabs and "hinge" for the door if you look. Fold that open.
Get a sharp pick tool, you can even use an open safety pin or something like that. It has to be very slim and sturdy. From the front side of the connector (where it plugs in to the ECU) slide that tool in there just above the pin. If you look and study it, there's a plastic locking tab in the shell that holds the pin in place. Get the tool under that tab so it's pulled up then pull the wire on the back side to slip it out of the connector.
Once you see how it works it's quite simple. The ECU connector is probably one of the easier connectors to take apart, most of the others are way more tricky.

Thanks guys.
I saw that it looked like the connector came apart and I was thinking I didn't want to open it and have all the wires falling out...and have to re-pin everything. Doh. Access panel. Thanks, especially to you DaleClark.
