Back up light help
Pesky little problem here.
Basically, the back up lights on my FD stay on, and I need to find some way to fix the problem. It is not exclusive to the reverse gear, but they stay on at all times, in any gear. I believe it may be a bad connection in the wires/sensor from the tranny somewhere, but I'm not sure how it operates exactly. Any help with finding the source of the problem, and/or how to fix it would be great.

I had a similar problem in my Probe GT a couple of years ago. It turned out to be a broken reverse switch that sits in the transmission. All it does is trips when the car is put into reverse so that the back up lights come on. The only problem with it was that you have to drain the fluid to change it or else do it real fast. Of course that was with a front transaxle and not a RWD transmission. It should be similar however. Good luck finding this switch and replacing it. If not that is a good place to start.
There's a connector on the bottom/side of the tranny that might have broke or gotten damaged somehow and is shorting the two wires together. Otherwise, it's probably the switch in the shifter. Read the FSM or start picking around.

The tranny switch is quite easy to remove - provided you can get under the car! Just look for the two wires coming out of it. It's located on the upper driver side of the tranny. Take it out by unscrewing it and check that the little "ball bearing" type switch is free to move in and out.
