back seat removal/swap

Hey guys,

So, I've got a JDM FD, which came with rear seats. As you can imagine, they are the definition of useless.

I'd like to get rid of them for weight reduction, and to clean up the car a little. I'd like it to look really clean and well done though, I don't want just a bunch of exposed metal and holes everywhere.

I was wondering if anyone else had done this before, and what the best way of going about it would be.

Also, what is the rear seat compartment like in the USDM spec FDs? Is there some sort of carpeting or covering for the back that is removable? I would assume the US and JDM cars would have very similar compartments, with some simple (hopefully interchangeable) differences.

Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated.

I'll send you my bins for your seats right now, the swap is really easy the sail panels change too but they just snap in place

Nope, hadn't noticed that yet.

Come to think of it, I should have traded my bins for a nice set of rear seats before I left England. I got a pristine drivers side black leather seat (passenger side for them) for cheap, but I forgot about the rears =(

Swap is easy. Some people here are looking to swap to rear seats. Here are all the parts to do a COMPLETE swap

parts removed on:

Bin car-------------------------- rear seat car

rear 1/4 panels------rear 1/4 panels with seat belts
bins and rear divider--------rear seats and brackets
tranny tunnel (longer one)------tranny tunnel (shorter one)

i think the carpet is removed with the seats as a whole.

The rear seat set consists of the following:

2 rear panels (right and left)
2 sets of seat belts w/female connector
2 seat belt buckets
1 bucket (bottom) seat cushion
1 back seat pad
2 trunk connector brackers (left and right)
2 back panel connector brackets (left and right)
2 back panel connector bracket covers (left and right)
1 rear carpet (attached to the back seat pad)
2 speaker covers (left and right)
bolts and washers for the seat belts

The conversion is a direct swap. All bolt holes SHOULD be already in the chassis. It is a very easy swap and takes all of about 15-20 minutes to install. spr258, I am not really sure what you mean by the tranny tunnel. I have sold about 5 sets of these seats and I have never had to swap anything with the tranny tunnel.

The bins are not much lighter. The seats weigh almost nothing.

spr, I see what you mean now. The seats do not come with anything like that cover at all. That is a bin exclusive piece.

That isnt a cover it is a shorter tranny cover. you dont have to have one. I installed my seats with out the shorter tranny cover and have no problem. But if someone is doing a complete swap that is something that should be traded. I can take pics if someone is interested. but not until monday or tuesday.
