b & M shifters

Its really hard for me to go from 1st to second and also 3rd to 2nd. You have 2 full slam it, it makes it hard for daily driving, does anybody have the same problem???thanx

Two things will help you greatly:
1. An engine torque brace (Think what you want, know it helped my shifting)

2. New motor mounts. Obviously, this one is quite a bit more expensive and time consuming, but if you have the engine pulled for any reason-do this mod!

I hope that this helps a little.

I don' t think the problem is within your shifter, rather, it might be the transmission itself. As mentioned before, it could also be the motor mounts. With any short shifter, it requires even MORE effort for it to get into gear.

there was a thread already about this not too long ago. And it seems that most people had a problem with getting it from 1st to 2nd with B&M ss. I have the same problem, but only when the car is cold. It doesn't bother me though.

same problem here. i never realized it would be HARDER to shift with this thing.

Is the engine torque brace the thing that mounts under the hood on the passenger side?

Just give it a chance to break in a little bit - after a few weeks, you won't even notice it.

yah a new short throw wont help too much if you are already having problems.

i have this nice B&M and i love the throws, and i also have a FEED engine torque brace, but i had my syncros replaced just a few months ago. maybe if i had the stuff sooner it might have helped save my syncros, but whatever..... i love the throws now atleast!

Oh, and I have had no problems with my B&M. Took some getting used to, but no problems.

you could try making sure the stops are set correctly. The B&M in my C5 had to be adjusted a bit.
I can't remember if the spring tension can be adjusted on them for the side to side movement.
I was actually thinking about making my own shifter to lock out 1 and 5 unless you have a handle pulled. That way you can't miss third even if you want to.
that's my only complaint about the stock shifter.

The Mazdaspeed (and it's replicas) are about a 50-66% reduction (depending on the site selling it as what they list as the reduction) where as the B&M is 33%.

I could never imagine going back to stock shifter or steering ever again.
