AWS Solenoid?

can anyone tell me what the aws solenoid is for, also i tested mine with a multimeter and it is out of the parameters that the manual says are acceptable, so what kind of problems would this cause if this sensor is bad, can anyone enlighten me please. tia

It revs the engine to 3000 rpms on cold start. Not Mazda's best invention.
