Thumbs up autometer vs. japanese gauges

I have noticed a huge price difference between autometer gauges and japanese made gauges. I have heard the reason autometer is cheaper is that they are relatively inaccurate. Is it worth the extra money to get hks or greddy gauges or will autometer still get the job done?THanks -Jeff

autometer gauges get the job done fine imho. this is coming from someone with all greddy gauges

i've used my friend's and it seemed pretty precise. i don't know how accurate it is though so if you buy one you probably want to test it with another pressure gauge to check its accuracy.

What job are u referring to? If u are talking about daily drive and being the occasional weekend warrior, then the autometer gauges are fine. If ur goal is a 400+ hp land rocket then u'll need more accurate gaues for tuning references.
It depends on the job, man.

Get a good electric guage for boost, I had an autometer and it started reading off after only 6 months, and I know 2 other people around me that have had bad experiences with them also. It is worth the money and they look sooo much better. Make sure you install and aftermarket temp guage while your at it also, an autometer will be alright for this job, but you might as well get matching guages

For a good Autometer debate, check this thread:

https://www.rx7club.com/vforums/show...threadid=35679

The gauges are good and as accurate as anything. Basically you aren't going to be staring at the gauges all the time, you should only need them when diagnosing your car.

Some of the digital ones with playback capabilities are nice, but if you aren't into racing, it won't help you much. The Autometer will do just fine and save you some money to be used else where on your FD.

If you want a good gauge in Autometer's price range go with VDO. Autometer gauges, particularly their boost gauges are renowned for reading high, low or drifting off center. Sure, lots of people claim Autometer gauges are fine and there are plenty of examples of where their boost gauges don't have problems but it is a FACT that their gauges experience more problems then other brands. For the added price I would prefer to avoid these potential problems. Personally I have seen two out of two autometer gauges drift off center. One mine and another a friends.

I think for best performance and price, get the Greddy. They are probably the cheapest of the Japanese gauges.

DEFI gayges are the best, IMO. Apex, Blitz, GReddy, Omori, and SPI are also really good. autometer sucks, IMO.

In Japan, more than 90 percent of the drag racing driver use Autometer.
I don't know the fast driver who doesn't use Autometer.
As for me, I'm not a drag racer. I'm a circle track racer.
I use Autometer gauges.
I have used HKS, Greddy, Omori and so on.
Now, I buy Autometers from Summitracing.
I love them.

I had a autometer boost gauge and it seemed to work ok, it was a little off of my blitz boost controller. I think the electronic boost gauge like the defi are nice. I think it comes down to what you are doing with your car and how much you want to spend.

and as for Japan drag racers and others using autometer for racing. the most comman thing i have seen is using the monster tachs. and then using other gauges hks, ect for other.

I kinda think its the same deal as here in the U.S

we want whats in japan and they want whats in the U.S.

I like the japanese gauge's for the look. defi's just look a lot nicer than the autometers to me, but thats just my opinion

if you want to compare pricing, rx7store.net has some of the best pricing on gauges and a nice selection

You are right!!

>>I think it comes down to what you are doing with your car and how much you want to spend.

Exactly!!

>>the most comman thing i have seen is using the monster tachs. and then using other gauges hks, ect for other.

You know well about the situation in Japan.
The big problem is the scale and unit difference.
Autometer gives us a few metric gauges.
There aren't so many choice.

>>we want whats in japan and they want whats in the U.S.

HaHaHa... We love Redline, Earl's, B&M, and so on.

>>if you want to compare pricing, rx7store.net has some of the best pricing on gauges and a nice selection

Prices of Japanese gauges aren't so high.
But shipping cost to US is high.
